    French cup semi-finals results :

    Grenoble ( D2) 0 - Lyon 1 ( Hegerberg 90+4)
PFC 0 LIlle 1 Boussaha ( direct corner)

Pedros the OL coach explained that they selected all the players that could play, but they had a lot of problem, as they did not even train as some came back on Thursday and others on Friday from all over the World.

rare inter-league meeting as current 4th place, Bordeaux take on the Washington Spirit., who finished in 7th place, last season in the NWSL

    spoilers below

here's more info on the game
Pugh, Lavelle provide offensive spark in first half, Spirit fall 3-1 after second-half comeback - Washington Spirit
for pre season, the Spirit do quite good for the game, actual dominate the 1st half. Allowed 9 subs in the 2nd half, But proves their downfall, as once all their stars are out(Lavelle, Pugh, Sullivan & Hatch) the French take over

They almost never score 3 goals in the league, with the usual logic on here this means the French league must be a lot better than the NWSL!;)

The Spirit looked pretty good in the first half--well-organized, athletic, defended well. I thought the first half was pretty even overall but Washington had the better chances and was more dangerous in transition thanks to Lavelle, who made two or three good runs, one of which led to the Spirit goal. Hatched, after a pass from Lavelle, crossed nicely to Pugh, whose header hit the post and then ricocheted off the foot of a Bordeaux player for an own goal. Pugh had at least three great scoring chances--she was twice 1 v. 1 with the French keeper, but both her shots were saved and a third was blocked by a Bordeaux defender. She'll have to finish better if the Spirit are going to win matches this year.

Bordeaux scored three times in the 2nd half. The first was a beauty of a free kick from the right side that was perfectly placed. Then Spirit keeper Bledsoe needlessly cut down a Bordeaux player in the box, leading to a penalty-kick goal fairly late in the game, and then Bordeaux scored again at the 90' on a nice chip over Bledsoe. An interesting game to watch. Washington should be better this year at full-strength but of course will be missing Lavelle and Pugh for a long stretch, and without them the Spirit might struggle to score.

seems like their having a great season though, they were in 3rd place for the longest time, thanks to their earlier, upset over star-studded Montpelier, And their really doing it without only few well known names, the Kiwi GK(Naylor). Then, Lavogez & Assayi, who might not be good to make the final French WC squad.

The Spirit had only 2 wins in 24 games all last season, and that's despite several of Jill Ellis hand picked players(I refuse to call it the UWSNT until Ellis is permanently fired, lol

Lavelle hardly played at all last year for the Spirit--she missed nearly all of the season, got some minutes late, as I recall--and Pugh was out with an injury for a long period as well. Without those two the Spirit had very little in attack, and the rest of roster wasn't very good, either. They have revamped the roster and should be improved--but with Lavelle and Pugh slated to again miss a big chunk of the season with the World Cup, they could struggle again. It is going to be a weird NWSL year with various teams missing their best players.

Aw cool, we're heading for a likely championship decider – Lyon failed to beat Fleury (6th), and PSG won 3-0 over the last-placed Rodez. The title challengers are level on points, and the next game is Lyon v PSG (13 April).

Table after 19 games, 3 to go
    Lyon 53pts (+71GD), PSG 53 (+47GD), Montpellier 33, Bordeaux 30, Paris FC 28

The last time Lyon drew with a team below the top 2 was May 2016 v Montpellier. (see www.youtu.be/8UityxBhe-A).

The last time Lyon failed to beat a team so low in the table? Apparently you have to go back to November 2009, when they lost 3-1 to FCF Hénin-Beaumont.

I hadn't realized quite how thorough Lyon's dominance has been! When people say Lyon "always win", they really do.

Lyon build a squad through the years thanks to a big investment and they are very clever in squad regenaration by bringing in quality players.
See how they brought Hegerberg in to replace Schelin etc plus they buy the best French players while they are still young enough.

I didn't know about Lyon's scorer in this game, Soledad Jaimes: where does she come from?

There was some understandable rotation in OL players', since this match was shortly after the WCL's return-leg vs Wolfsburg, but judging from higlights OL also wasted chances quite nonchalantly when they were 1-0, as if it was target practice and the win was anyway due. I didn't see real determination in their effort. :coffee:

Anyway, not that a win by PSG vs a full-strength OL is particularly easy to envision, but if Champions' League semifinal vs Chelsea will take its toll, who knows if OL couldn't lose any other points around and if even a tie could be enough for PSG?

Jaimes is Mexican and was playing in China previously if I remember well.

OL v PSG tonight 20.45 CET , the big game, the title decider. PSG need an away win. Any other result and the title stays in Lyon. Live on Canal + sport.

At the bottom of the table, Rodez could go down this week-end while Metz and Lille will fight to avoid the other relegation place.

Big moment at 1-0 for Lyon when PSG were denied a penalty for a handball. Lyon very superior but VAR was needed on that call, because at 1-1 it's a different game.

How many matches remain to play in Division 1? Not that OL can realistically lose 3 points to PSG now, but I guess the title wasn't officially assigned yet. :coffee:

Only two games to go. PSG need to catch 4 points on OL because if they finish level on points, OL win on head to head record.

While it's true that ref calls weren't the best (again! in such high profile match) however no amount of luck would've help PSG that night. Paris side was simply lacking one or two gears and had no clear game plan outside of counter play. Kiedrzynek, Diani and perhaps Wang were only players in PSG on par with their rivals while performance of the rest was simply awful - especially Cook, Berglund and Formiga.
Also, on this level it's a crime that absence of one usual starter (Dudek) affects team defense this much.

On the side Kiedrzynek proves again that she's probaly within top 3 best gk in the buissness now.

Weird tactics as well from Echaoufani, and as you mentioned performance level was really poor by PSG unable to create chances for a long time.
