Well, in fairness, it isn't the minarets that bother them as much as the declining insularity they represent.
This is clever... Marine Le Pen steps down as leader of National Front party two weeks before French Presidential election http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/marine-le-pen-steps-down-10288792 Sound familiar? It is so nice that the shackles have been taken off me and I can now fight for America the way I want to.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 11, 2016
http://www.pewglobal.org/2017/04/24/middle-class-fortunes-in-western-europe/ France doesn't do as bas as some think...
LePen is a lot smarter and more supple than Trump. But deep inside she's still a neo-fascist. Trump just surrounds himself with neo-fascists (and his under-qualified relatives).
BS. It is very rational for socialists to prefer voting national-socialist over some form of neo-liberalism. The US is a completely different animal. And responsibility is not a category in voting decision-making.
In France, socialists (I' m not talking about communists) have always been on the side of democracy in the last century, or at least -and that includes communists- have always fought the far right since the 30's. So what we see here is something new.
It's just @Knave's hobby horse. He thinks Bernie voters abandoned Clinton, despite all evidence to the contrary.
Who cares ... it's perfectly natural for a democracy to have a broad spectrum. Why should the far left vote for the center? People get turned off by being held hostage. If the center loses to the far right, maybe it doesn't deserve electoral success. If the decision to not vote backfires and hurts the far left they'll deserve that too. Of course I'm not claiming that Macron is the traditional center. Just in this context relative to Melenchon and Le Pen
From an ideologic view that is nothing new. They are one of a kind. Franz Josef Strauß used to say the nazis were first and foremost socialists. And socialists are enemies of a democracy. Just two sorts of weed from the same root.
True. Actually, the Socialists in general and particularly the PS came up with the concept of "Front republicain" to stop the FN. The Melenchon movement has a number of disgruntled socialists but a lot of other factions from the far left as well. Having said that, I would not be surprised that they vote in much higher numbers and for Macron next Sunday.
Not quite what I think. I think the holier than thou left is ultimately anti-political -- and therefore worse than useless politically. And it appears to be an international trait.
Socialists are ennemies of democracy ? You mean that Jaurès, Blum, Mitterrand were ennemies of democracy ? Or Brandt or Schmidt ? The nazis originating from socialism (only up to a certain point : nazism have several roots) doesn't mean socialism will always lead to nazism.
Potentially yes. But not Brandt or Schmidt. Brandt perhaps in his youth. I also didnt say one leads to another, I said they are one of a kind and both paths eventually lead to fascism, the absence of democracy.
No shit. This reminds so much of the Austrian debates if you understand German youd think this was a rerun
