The surprise is that's... There was no surprise. But it was close. I'm glad Fillon is out. This ******** only deserves to go to jail. I wish Melenchon went to the 2nd round as we would have a real alternative choice because as it stands, it makes zero doubt Macron will be elected.
Marcon leads with 23.7% of the vote followed by LePen with 21.7% Fillion and Melenchon both finish at 19.5% Both Fillion and Harmon have called on the "Republican Pact" and push their supporters to back Marcon.
Im wondering how a Macron presidency will look like. Does en marche even run for the assemble? I mean will this turn out like a cohabitation but without parliamentary arm of en marche?
It does. France isnt the country for compromises and reaching acrosss the aisle. You have 4 parties more or less around 20% showing how radically split the society is. And those who are through to the 2nd round are the French counterparts on different ends of the poltical spectrum
Indeed. Macron and Le Pen in the second round. Macron did better than I expected and Le Pen worse. I would be shocked if she get to 32 % in the run off. Macron is the next Rrench president.
Le Marche will run candidates for the congress/ Assembly in June. If they don't get a majority, I expect him to built a alliance with the PS and with the centrist Francois Bayrou.
Looks like those two losing candidates' supporters will be important to the runoff. Should be interesting.

It is a done deal now, Macron president is foregone conclusion. I would predict Macron will win 70/30.
Pro-EU, Pro-Globalism, ex-Rothschild banker. The altright is going to lose their shit. Can't wait to read #Franceisover on twitter.
This is something peculiar to French politics, what we call 'la discipline republicaine': put aside party differences to defeat extremists. https://t.co/ojmp11zsrK— Philippe Auclair (@PhilippeAuclair) April 23, 2017
Parts of Europe probably look east and are like...."oh hell no, not in MY country" I think Trump may have negatively impacted elections for populist candidates.
Above is the voting distribution based on departments, including the overseas departments. Only the votes from French citizens overseas isn't indicated as of the moment. Grey areas are for LePen, Yellow for Marcon, Blue for Fillion, Red for Meleanchon.
Yes the right side of PS, the left side of the Rep and the centrist Bayrou himself have already joined Macron. But having a majority won't be easy. We have no longer the traditional bipartism but a completely new quadripartism, making the very stable 5th republic a potentially unstable regime.
