There are two of them. The one on the south side (behind my seats) is huge. The other is at the NW corner and is small by comparison.

Thanks for the pat on the head. I bet you're right.

MLS (and DC!) have longed for the cliche of downtown stadiums with landmark buildings in the background, non? You'll probably roll your eyes every time a camera takes that establishing shot at LAFC but those camera crews and many thousands of instagrammers and other hoi polloi that {ugh} attend pro sports just don't have your sophistication.

I sure don't. DC United on a grass field in a soccer specific stadium wid that capital building right there in the backgroun'... Byoodifull.

The cameras will mostly be on the east side and be able to see the building for a while...

Is that a certainty? I thought there was still a possibility they would go West. They held back some seats for a TV stand on the West side I believe.

They could put something on the west. Things always change. I was just basing off of documents and the seat viewer.

Most of the time you'll see TV cameras on the west side, just so they do not end up getting blinded by the sun in the late afternoon/evening.

For some reason I always get giddy when they put seats and grass into stadiums. Anxious to see the whole thing.

Is there only going to be a tv screen in the one endzone? That is definitely how it appears on the webcams.

Edit: the renders look like another corner will have a small one.

Does anyone know if there is any plans/potential to fill in that corner to expand the DC stadium? With such a small site and limited ability to grow, it does seem very odd to take a whole corner and not put any seats/stands. They could add several hundred seats if they had enclosed that corner. I think the current design does look kind of incomplete.

Other than that I like the stadium despite all the complaining. I think the cramped site has led to a pretty unique stadium. I think unique is good....some of the time.

Fantastic for LA! Great to see a fanbase that lost a team get another shot.

Really, there are atleast 5 new stadia in the pipeline: LA, DC, Minny, Miami, & Nashville.

Plus at least one of Cincy/Sac seems likely. If not both eventually.

There has been a lot of speculation because it's universally thought that DCU under built. If you averaged 17K in the worst possible stadium with a terrible team for so many years, 19K just ain't gonna cut it. The team has been on record telling the City Council and Planning Commission that the stadium was not built with expansion in mind. That was a lame attempt to appease NIMBYs. You could do just about anything to expand the stadium if you spent the money.

The footprint is tiny though. Outside of your suggestion, the only way to add seats would be to build on right of way over streets like what Atletico Madrid has done. I don't see that as an impossibility as many other building sites in DC have done that in the last 20 years. Two major projects going on right now like that.

However, it is uniformly believed by DCU faithful that this ownership group sells the moment the clock strikes midnight on the 5-year anniversary of the stadium opening (a provision inserted by a cautious city council). This ownership group is not in it for the long haul.

The ownership group is in it to make a profit on buying low and selling high. They got DCU for a pretty good deal and now have a shiny new stadium to bundle with it in a top quality market for soccer. I hope/expect the next owner to be in it for the club and not the sweet business deal. That time has passed.

Looking good. Why no LAFC spelled out in the seats?

I am guessing this stadium will be heavily in-demand for non LAFC events :)

Speaking of that, I wish they would have gotten Bruce Springsteen to open the stadium with a show. Would be some good symmetry since he is the one who closed the Sports Arena that this replaced.

Anyone know if that video board is larger than Stubhub Center's?

This is exactly why you should put LAFC in the seats, not why you shouldn't.

I wonder how many movies it will be used for stadium scenes. Pretty sure SHC has been used for several. I would think this one would now be used.

Why not use the Coliseum next door?
