Encapsulates Timmy's cameo perfectly. Showed briefly once more why I can not wait to see him develop with us very soon.

Timmy believes he can develop at United under Mourinho.

Still very much believe in his long term prospects at the club, yet starting to think more and more that a loan stint somewhere, could be very beneficial for him as well for this season.
More than anything else, he needs to play this season (preferably in midfield) and a successful loan spell could firmly put him in the frame of the team in 2018/19...

I love the sentiment, Ashur, but I still think Timothy is better off not going on loan. There will be opportunities for him this season and if he can get a 2-3 game run he might never look back.

But if we do bring in, let's say, both Aurier and Dier, that might just tell that there's nowhere for Fosu-Mensah to go with United and we might as well loan him out, if not eventually sell him.

Opportunities but not enough and only as cover in multiple positions. He needs game time and he needs it in his preferred position to progress.

Only slightly similar but look at how we ruined the development of Jones by randomly throwing him around at centre back, right back and in defensive midfield.

Horror analysis. What "ruined the development of Jones" was his susceptibility to injury, fairly serious injury at that. He's a CB through and through and it didn't hurt him in the least to be assigned the role of man marking Ronaldo, which he did quite brilliantly.

None of us here are even sure of what Timothy's "preferred position" is. CB? RB? DCM? Maybe even RW, according to one poster last season.

I certainly don't know what his preferred position is. He's still only 19 years old. Scholes began his professional career as a forward but settled quite nicely as a central midfielder. Valencia was a right winger who became a left back. Fosu-Mensah doesn't look like a footballer who has the qualities of a specialist. He looks more all rounder who's very physical, confident with the ball and willing to take a man on, offensively and defensively. There's no obvious answer what his preferred position is.

We can send him out on loan and he'll get lots more game time, no question. But most loan spells are disappointing and when the player return he finds that the manager has already made plans for the positions that player who jump into. Not always, but more often than not.

The best way to say goodbye to Fosu-Mensah now would be to loan him out. I'm not ready to say goodbye to him just yet.

Jones had spent most of his career in midfield when we signed him.

Jones has most of his career in recovery.

Jones is not and never was going to be a top midfielder. Yes, I realize Ferguson once compared him to Edwards but I trust you'll agree with me that that comparison was ludicrous.

Jones is and was always built to be central defender, not to be the next Scholes or Keane or Zidane (or even the next Memphis :ROFLMAO:). When we picked him up at a pretty young age we had Rio and Vidic, whom I trust you will agree with me were in no way going to be dislodged by Jones. So we slotted him at RB on occasion and on other occasions had him fill in at RB. Yes, he did play attacking midfielder once I believe against Liverpool but that didn't work out so brilliantly. But that was ok as we've had to play a lot of players in unnatural positions over the years due to injury crises (Carrick at CB on several occasions). You do what you gotta do for the club.

Jones has been battling with fitness over the last 5-6 seasons. That and only that has been the barrier to his development as a professional footballer. As it stands now, he's third or fourth choice at best for United. That may change in the future, but that's where he is now.

That's precisely the worry when it comes to him. He's coming up to a crucial point in his development as a player. And it would be a shame not to see it handled properly by lack of regular games/minutes, but also not seeing him played in the position he truly appears to be destined for.
I'm even sure what his best position in midfield would be at this time (whether it's in a holding or b2b role), but, if nothing else, I would like for him to get a genuine opportunity to prove himself there, in order to determine where his future really lies. And that will not happen at United in spot duties at best behind 3-4 guys, who are currently ahead of him.
Going out on loan would be the best solution and, if successful, it would give Jose the latitude to make some moves accordingly next summer to free up space for him in the squad (by moving Fellaini on for instance).

He has a future in a Mourinho led team. He has the ability to man mark anyone. I think he has loads of room to grow but I suspect even before his game rounds out, he will be a regular.

Timmy and AP should stay with the team next season. Both fill spots where we badly need some depth.

Should not be a question about it either: going away has been pretty good so far for both, especially for Timmy (since it's his first time going out loan, unlike AP).
And while I'm fine with him staying with Palace until the end of the season, I'm still leaning towards AP coming back in January: even if he wouldn't get to play much in central midfield, there are other positions we're just mediocre in and he could bring something, if given the opportunity (@ playmaker/10 and on the right).

Matic and/or Valencia could use some relief, ergo Fosu-Mensah. Unless rumors of Fabinho coming to OT come true.

Timmy end up starting yesterday for Holland vs Scotland. The Dutch played in a 3 CB formation and he was the RWB. He put in another solid performance there, galloping up and down the touchline all game long. His standout moment was a big block he put in on Matt Philips, I believe, who had a clear shot on goal. End up playing 70mins or so before he was subbed off and helped Holland keeping a clean sheet.

Fantastic news, if it comes to pass as rumored. It's true that we're fairly deep in CBs and it's true that Lindelof has turned the corner on a horror start to his United career, but as the season grinds through the second half Valencia won't be able to play every single game. And even though we've got Tuanzebe to cover at RB (and there's always Darmian) we could use TFM's services.

He recently injured himself (hamstring), but he was not playing as much under Woy as he did at the start of the season and there's a strong possibility as mentioned above that he will be recalled to the club next month.
Which personally, I think suits our purposes since he can offer extra depth at RB, but also in midfield as well.

I hope he gets some minutes this season. Hopefully he can get spelled in place of Fred and Fred (and AP #wishfulthinking) can get Pogba minutes when he needs a break. That would leave Ander, McT and Matic for one and a half spots which is ok.

If we do bring in another CM we are going to need to send TFM aback on loan and likely sell AP.

TFM isn't earmarked as a CM in Jose's eyes. Our midfield moves have maybe 5% impact on his playing time.

TFM's main role next season will be to spell Valencia/begin the takeover process if he shows he is capable.

Timmy is determined to make his mark in United's first team this season (despite interest from other clubs).

    www.mufclatest.com/timothy-fosu-mensah-wants-to-impress-now-not-be-told-his-time-is-coming-his-time-is-now/

    www.sportwitness.co.uk/exclusive-20-year-old-still-future-manchester-united-amid-la-liga-rumours/

The good news here is that he is holding on to his dream of making it with United and does not really appear intent on leaving anytime soon. We've got to start showing real faith in him though. He's still young but his talent is obvious (and teams will have taken notice, no doubt).
Even in a backup capacity, he should be able to log in some significant PT, to keep his appetite wet for bigger things down the line. He, along with other top youngsters, will surely get their chances on tour. Let's hope they can take and make an impression on Mourinho and the coaching staff.
