One is funny, but not funny enough, two is funny, but too political, four is kind of paint by numbers (bacon, hipsters, bridges, football; etc.) and I'm either missing the joke on five or it's not very funny. I'm going with the feral cats. It's funny, it's true, and no one outside of Portland will know what the hell we're talking about.
5 is about the expansion draft selections of findley and bornstein and Gaven's comments about not just looking to draft players for today, but for 10 months or even 10 years from now. i cant decide, they are all good. i like the unemployed one, but it plays to the sadder side of oregon. i think im going with beer. strippers. bike lanes. football. since it paints a picture of what most people think about portland and it defines us the most. all good options though.
It came down to Feral Cats vs. All Your Unemployed. In the end, I decided that unemployed just hit a little too close to home.
I wasn't going to say anything until the polling closed, but I'm glad the outcome was in favor of those who posted. I was afraid the internet unwashed masses and non-Oregon-SW-Washington people would be voting. Yeah, democracy can raise a lot of prejudices in me. Screw open franchises.
So, I've only lived in Portland a few months. Can someone please explain the "feral cats" joke to me.
Alright, it's a tie after the poll is closed, and well, since I have the power to be the deciding vote, I'm going with Feral Cats. Let it be so.
Correct me if I'm wrong. There is a structure in the nether-places of PGE that is called Feral Cat Alley meant to feed feral cats living in the area. Pics

awwwwwww ... how long was this poll open for, 5 minutes? I beg of you to reconsider, The Marquis! Or is that 'Mr.' The Marquis? Beer. Strippers. Bike lanes. Football. That should have won. Honestly, I didn't even get the feral cats reference. I had to look it up. I vaguely remembered it from before, but it's not that funny. I know taglines are often inside jokes -- but they're at least inside jokes that most MLS fans around here get. Most people IN the stadium have never heard of this feral cat thing. How can we have a tagline that doesn't reference bike lanes in some way? This is criminal! I strongly urge the committee to reconsider!
I second this....let's reopen the poll! Before you point it out....let me just set the record straight about my location and support of the Rapids. I've been a Rapids fan since '96, and am finally basking in the sunlight of our first MLS championship! However, I moved to Portland in '08 and have been an ardent supporter of the Timbers since. I'm a STH member of The Axe Society and will be officially changing my BS details before the start of the '11 MLS season. To me, "Beer. Strippers. Bike lanes. Football." is a much better tagline.
I gave it 5 days and had it auto close, so didn't come in and close it at my convenience. We'll change it again someday, no question. We'll have a lot more ammo as it relates to MLS soon enough. Besides, this is a great way to tote one of the coolest things about our stadium.
