Shane O'Neill is on the move again in Europe, this time on a permanent transfer. The former Colorado Rapids defender joined Dutch Eredivisie club Excelsior Rotterdam https://www.socceramerica.com/article/74616/oneill-finds-permanent-home-at-excelsior-rotterda.html O'Neill, 23, played 53 games with the Rapids over four seasons but bounced around clubs in the Belgium and England before landing at NAC Breda, which he helped them win promotion this season to the Eredivisie. All the time he was on loan from Apollon for which he never played.
http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/shan...-path-to-eredivisie/f5eofcfvzadq1egwn7d0s0ode Shane played exclusively as a CB at NAC. I managed to stream one of his playoff matches and it appeared NAC were playing 3 CB's in a 3-5-2 system. Shane was tasked with really playing the ball out of the back. Those CB's played very narrowly on the defensive end allowing the wingbacks to cover those flanks. Once NAC gained possession those CB's slung passes around the park. Shane looked very comfortable. The style just fit his skill set. Oh......and the link above is an interview he gave this week that really captures his road to Excelsior. It's not been an easy road but as he put it, it's been a humbling one. Shane has interest from France, Portugal, and Denmark as well as MLS interest. Colorado was not the interested party. I had heard through a mutual connection it was a "playoff contending Eastern Conference" club that showed interest.
Also saw this last night, former Colorado Foxes and Rapids player, Wolde Harris is an assistant for the Switchbacks
Wolde's been their since their inception, I believe. I saw him at a Metro vs Regis match scouting last season and I was like that's Wolde Harris, I think. Very recognizable. He was wearing Switchbacks gear and I googled him and low and behold, sure enough saw he was an assistant. Speaking of..........it may have been mentioned somewhere but Gray Smith will be the inaugural manger for Nashville SC in the USL.
Meant to post this sooner but in Atlanta's destructive reverse engineering of New England Dan Gargan did commentary for Fox Sports South.
Balboa is a commentator (in Spanish) for UDN for today's Orlando/ATL UTD game. BTW: UDN has pretty elaborate coverage of the game: a College Game Day like panel in front of the stadium, color commentators with the fans, etc
W.T.F. http://www.espnfc.com/major-league-...ll-wynne-3-months-after-heart-surgery-sources MLS stopped paying Wynne as of July 1st due to his heart surgery
I guess the reasoning here is that he signed a new contract in the offseason and this heart issue was found as part of the physical for the new contract. Since he then "failed" the physical the contract is nullified so he was never under contract for 2018. So in rality they paid him through mid-2018 even though he didn't have a contract. All of that is legally and technically true but sometimes you just do the right thing. It looks especially questionable when the independent doctor has cleared him but the league doctor has not.
So, interesting situation perhaps developing in Dallas. They haven't won since July (9 games) and currently sit outside the playoff picture. And they're losing at the moment to Minnesota FC. I wonder if Oscar's seat is getting a little bit warm.
I doubt its getting warm. Heck I doubt that the default position of his surefire genus is even in play.
Not sure I'm posting this in the right spot, but Pablo is on the ballot for the US National Soccer Hall of Fame. He has tough opponents, but it is indeed an honor to get on the ballot.

Gabby Torres sighting in Orlando, said with some sadness and apprehension ... is he more likely to score than Tim Howard is to keep a clean sheet?
