Michael and his kid brother are Argentine anyway and Michael has played for the u20 though he still could play for the USA under the new FIFA regulations.

Is that Cristian Baez still eligible for Argentina ? ;)

The last British player ? Would that be Carlos Babington ? El Ingles. He had an English father and played in the seventies for the seleccion.

Alfredo Yates was born in England and played for Argentina in 1911.

The greatest British Isles footballing dynasty in Argentina ? The Browns.

    Taken from The Guardian:
The greatest British footballing family in South America was the Browns. James and Mary Brown emigrated to Argentina from Scotland in 1825. Six of their grandchildren later played for Argentina. Jorge Gibson Brown (1880-1936), known as El Patriarcho, played in Argentina's first game and in all won 23 caps, scoring four goals. Two of Jorge's brothers also played for Argentina. Carlos Carr Brown (1882-1926) won two caps in 1903 and 1905, and Ernesto Alejandro Brown (1885-1935) won 12 caps scoring once between 1902 and 1912.

The brothers had three cousins who also played for Argentina. Alfredo Carrow Brown (1886-1958) won nine caps (four goals) and Eliseo Brown (b 1888) won 10 caps (six goals) both between 1906 and 1911. The most capped player of the cousins was Juan Domingo Brown with 36 caps and two goals between 1906 and 1916.

A direct descendant of James and Mary Brown scored in the 1986 World Cup Final – José Luis Brown scored the first goal in Argentina's 3-2 win over West Germany.

Slightly off topic but who else was in that sparring squad ? Juan Manuel Iturbe was one so another little diamond for the midfield future.

My gracious thanks locoxriver. Been thinking about and wondering who was in it for some time.

I'd rep you but apparently I have to spread it around first.

Does he have a chance msi2 ? The accusations of nepotism will come soon after.

In other news, Adalberto Roman (PAR) played his first Superclasico and did a pretty good job in containing Boca's offense.

The Apertura 2010 is now over. The following foreigners were on the mark in the last round:

    Fecha 19:

    - Hernan Rodrigo Lopez (URU) scored 2 goals for Estudiantes, giving them the title. If it weren't for him, the game would have ended 0-0 and el Pincha would have had to play a playoff final vs. Velez, his ex-club. It's kind of interesting that Lopez wasn't really an important part of Estudiantes' team and he had only scored 2 goals the whole tournament up to this point (both were penalties). Still, in the last, most important game of the season, the Uruguayan came off the bench to give his team the title. Velez fans must be killing themselves over letting him go to Estudiantes. :p

    - Adalberto Roman (PAR) scored River's second goal in their 4-1 win over Lanus. The Paraguayan recovered after committing a penalty in the box, giving Lanus a partial tie.

    - Santiago Silva (URU) didn't score this round, but he still finished as the league's top-scorer* with 11 goals. This is his second time finishing as the top goleador of the tournament (he scored 14 goals with Banfield in the Apertura 2009).
*Small disclaimer: Stracqualursi, Tigre's forward, has 10 goals and can still catch-up or pass Silva, seeing how his team still has to make up the postponed match vs. Independiente.

Of all the 52 foreigners that participated in this last tournament, I would say Santiago Silva and Giovanni Moreno were the best. Jairo Castillo was also important to Godoy Cruz, while Adalberto Roman ended up being a key part to River's improvement towards the end of the season. It was interesting keeping track of all the foreigners in Primera, I'll make sure to make an update list for next season.

Who were you guys impressed by?

I guess Silva isn't a surprise anymore. I've liked Moreno and Román, clearly Passarella had a good eye right there, I also liked bits of the uruguayan Carlos Sanchez.

Today Estudiantes had a foreign player from their youth teams on the bench, a centre back, the swiss Dylan Gissi.

Looking through the list of top scorers of the Argentine league, I found out that in the 1906 season (amateur era) the top scorer of the Argentine league was a South African named Carlos Whalley.

I've known of Colombians, Uruguayans, Paraguayans, and even Brazilians, Spaniards, and Scots (amateur era) who have led our league in goals.. but never knew there was an African top scorer.

Anybody have any info on him? I can't find anything and this is the first time I even hear of his name.

Its interesting to see the rise of Ecuadorian players in Argentina. You've got Jaime Ayovi as the main striker at Godoy Cruz, Arturo Mina coming on big time at River, Kevin Mercado at Sarmiento, and Julio Angulo at Huracan.

I know thats not a huge number, but still, considering before Juani Cazares debuted at River in 2012, I don't remember an Ecuadorian ever playing in Argentina, though I could be wrong.

There's also Abel Casquete at River, who mainly plays in the reserva, but he played a few first team matches last year against Rafaela and Colon.

It definitely shows the growth of Ecuadorian football, but even the appeal of Argentine football as Mina and Ayovi are both mainstays in the Ecuador national team while Angulo was also recently called up (Juan Cazares was also a mainstay when he was at Banfield)

21-year-old Nigerian forward Okiki Afolabi is set to make his debut in the Argentine Primera Division this weekend, as his team Talleres take on league-leaders Estudiantes.

    http://www.ole.com.ar/talleres/Agenden-Okiki_0_1697230457.html

He scored a hattrick playing for Talleres' reserve team, bringing his name to the spotlight, and is noted for his physique (he's 6'4")... His only professional experience prior to this is playing in his country's top division, where he scored 13 goals in 17 games in his first and only season there. He left as the top scorer of the Nigerian Premier League, and registers an impressive 7 goals scored between 2 games played for Nigeria's U-23 team.

Should be interesting to see how this develops..
