I have a football magazine from around 2005-2006 with short biographies (plus a full list of clubs they've played for) for over 200 active South American footballers. While reading it back then, there was one player that stood out in the sense that his list of clubs played was never-ending! He wasn't even 30 years old, yet had already represented well over 10 clubs at that point. That player was Venezuelian midfielder Ricardo Páez. In total, he was contracted to 20 football clubs throughout his career, in 11 different countries. Michael Hector, the eternal loanee, is another one who has played for an enormous amount of teams. Ironically, not a single game for the one that employs him since 2015: Chelsea. He's only 26.
Interesting find Páez. Hector too. Then, indeed, there are the footballers on multiple loans who quite logically, more or less played for multiple clubs.

In the U.S. Open Cup topic, Jemal Johnson was mentioned. He's 34, and plays for Fresno FC in USL Championship, which is the second highest level in the USA. That's his 16th club. At age 5, his family moved from New Jersey to Macclesfield. His first 12 clubs were in Europe, with 11 in England and Lokomotiv Sofia. He played 16 or fewer games for 11 clubs, including 6 or fewer games for 6 clubs. Wikipedia calls him a striker/winger, and he scored 3 or fewer goals for 13 of his first 14 clubs. The exception was 12 goals in 96 games for Milton Keynes Dons.
Peter Beardsley played for 11 clubs: Carlisle United, Manchester United, Vancouver Whitecaps, Newcastle United, Liverpool, Everton, Bolton Wanderers, Manchester City, Fulham, Hartlepool United and the Melbourne Knights. That is not a lot, but four of the teams he played are Liverpool, Everton, Manchester United and Manchester City. He was on both sides of three of biggest rivalries in England. They are both sides of the Mersey derby, Manchester derby and the Liverpool-Manchester United rivalry. However, he only played once for Manchester United.
Giovanni Galli didn't play for too many teams (just 6) but according to wikipedia, he was inducted to the Hall of Fame of both Fiorentina and AC Milan.
