    Football Manager Draft

Welcome to the BigSoccer Football Manager Draft. This is the GENERAL THREAD, where the drafting, and all subsequent discussions will happen. There will be a separate thread created, once the tournament starts, where I will be posting all the results, which you should NOT be posting in.

    DRAFTING

    1. A standard snake format.

    2. Everyone must pick 18 players, with at least 2 GKs. The first GK must be one of your first 11 picks.

    3. The database can be found here:
    https://drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/0B3S2cmjqIgJZWmZkem9XQ0JmVmM

    4. Everyone has a 4-hour window for each pick. Your window only counts between 8:00 – 23:00 of your time zone.

    5. If you miss your pick window, you will be skipped for the next participant. You may make your pick whenever you return.

    6. As I am the host, you may send your shortlist to me and I will make the picks for you if needed. You may also give your shortlist to other participants. I would advise to give it to someone who picks after you, so they don't steal your player :D

    7. Always update the list when you make your pick and tag the next person. This makes everyone’s life so much easier.

    TOURNAMENT

The tournament is a 2-stage tournament.

    1. Group Stage

    2. Knockout Stage

    Group Stage

    1. Two groups of 5 teams. Everyone plays each other twice.

    2. 3 points for a win, 1 point each for a draw, 0 point for a loss.

    3. Tiebreakers for teams of equal points:
    - Results between teams tied
    - Goals Difference
    - Goals Scored
    - Beyond that, I don’t know, maybe a coin toss? LOL. In all seriousness, probably I’ll just have a tiebreaker match. Pretty unlikely scenario though.

    4. Winner of each group gets a bye in the knockout stage. The rest of the teams advance to the knockout stage with seeding according to their finishes in the group. They are drawn against opponents from the other group (eg. 2nd placed team from Group A plays 5th placed team from Group B.)

    Knockout Stage

    A double-elimination knockout tournament with a 1-2 format Final.

    1. A World Cup style knockout phase. However, every team has to lose twice to be eliminated.

    2. There is a ‘Winners’ bracket and a ‘Losers’ bracket. Everyone starts off in the ‘Winners’ bracket. Just like a normal tournament, if you keep winning, you advance into the next stage. If you lose, however, you drop down into the ‘Losers’ bracket.

    3. In the ‘Losers’ bracket, if you lose, then you are truly eliminated from the tournament. As you can see, first you are eliminated from the ‘Winners’ bracket then from the ‘Losers’ bracket before being eliminated from the tournament, thus ‘Double-Elimination’.

    4. The Grand Final stage is a 1-2 format. Basically, in the Grand Final, if the team from the ‘Winners’ bracket wins, then they’ve won the entire tournament. If the team from the ‘Losers’ bracket wins, then there’s another rematch. This is because the team from the ‘Winners’ bracket has never been eliminated, so they have to be defeated twice. It is the privilege of being the only undefeated team in the knockout phase.

    SCHEDULING

All upcoming fixtures will be posted before the games, so that you may have time to adjust your tactics to your upcoming opponents.

    Pre-Season

    1. Before the tournament starts, each team gets 5 pre-season friendlies against the 5 teams from the other group, to test out their tactics.

    2. The first friendly will happen once everyone has 11 players, as I want people to get a taste of the game asap and practice handing in their tactic.

    3. The 2nd to 5th friendlies will happen once everyone has finished drafting their team.

    Group Stage

    1. There is a total of 20 matches per group. 4 matches per group will be simulated every week (mostly likely 2 on Saturday and 2 more on Sunday). In some weeks, your team will only play once, and in some weeks, twice.

    2. The group stage will conclude after 5 game weeks.

    Knockout Stage

    1. Each round will be concluded each game week.

    2. The next set of fixtures will always be revealed a week before, so that each person has plenty of time to prepare.

    MATCHDAY TACTICS

    1. You will PM me your tactic form before each game week. Please hand in your tactics for your next match by each Friday night before each game week.

    2. Failure to hand in your tactics in time will result in a 3-0 loss.

    3. The tactic form is the following:
    Tactical Form (open)
    Team Philosophy: Very Rigid/ Rigid/ Balanced/ Fluid/ Very Fluid

    Match Strategy: Defensive/ Counter/ Standard/ Control/ Attacking

    Tempo: Slowest/ Slower/ Normal/ Faster/ Fastest

    4. You may also PM me with any tactics question you may have.

***NOTE*** To prevent abuse, do not attempt to create a striker-less tactic with three central attacking midfielders. It is a known abuse in this version of FM.

Puck is interviewing one target and I'm taking the back-up for a game of Ten-pin Bowling, so we're ready to make our signing once we know if Holy Joe is calling one of them with a last minute offer that they can't refuse, or choosing somebody else that we've not made contact with, despite their agents attempts to set something up.
