Time to move on I think. Liverpool have had an improved offer of £66million rejected for RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita. The Reds' initial bid of £57million was snubbed earlier this month and the Bundesliga outfit remain adamant that the Guinea international is not for sale. Liverpool must now decide whether to table another offer or pursue alternative midfield options. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spor...ws/liverpool-improved-bid-naby-keita-13352497
He also said Keita only wants to go to Liverpool... so we'll see if that holds up next season when more clubs are in for him.
Based on Klopp's reaction to questions about the latest rejected bid after today's game, I'd venture to say that there's still life in this transfer saga... if I had to guess the two sides are deep in negotiations about the overall size of the transfer package and how the payments are organized (e.g. how much guaranteed and when vs. performance bonuses). Still may not make it over the line, but it sounds like LFC have not yet given up on making this happen.
and to think...Neymar is reported to be a 193M transfer to PSG. what a bargain Keita would be at only 70-80M. i hope Mane has a 90M release clause...except who could Liverpool get that would be as good as Mane for only 90M??? as a reality check, Thierry Henry's transfer fee was 12M, give or take a bag of crisps.
If there's a release clause for next year they'd be crazy not to sell now, but maybe they think a lot can change in 12 months. They'd be right.
Because Arsenal were mugs in the transfer market/allowing players run down their contracts into the final year etc....mcmanaman and Owen did the same back in the day
And we would be just as crazy to think he will still be available to us next summer. Remember, there is no guarantee we will be in the Champions League again. I think that is why we are going after Klopp's big targets right now.
Yep. He's worth more to them playing for a year instead of getting them an extra 30M now. At least that seems to be their point of view. Or maybe they're just playing hardball! Either way a 70M bid should tell the tale.
From the RB perspective Is he worth 30M + wages for one years service? Even if he doesn't sign with us next year, someone will pick him up for the buyout clause.
http://readliverpoolfc.com/2017/07/19/qa-hull-city-fans-tv-andrew-robertson/ Seems like he's no different than Moreno
There is also this to consider, replacing him will be hard, the replacement player will probably have higher wages, and keeping him and doing well in CL brings you money.
Let's wait until he actually plays for us before passing judgement? May not set the world on fire, but Moreno appeared unable to figure out when to track back... and probably should really have been a left wing rather than a FB.
Moreno's problem may have been his speed. It allowed him not to learn the positional aspects of defending and just rely on his pace to cover his mistakes.
If it was a choice between VvD or Keith who would yous want? Even though Naby Keita has potential to be up there amongst those game changers, we need VvD so desperately
An interesting question. You could say that Keita would massively improve an already adequate MF, but VvD would address a glaring deficiency at CB so is more critical a need. But I go back to the view that a dominating MF feeds the attack and protects the back line (look at what Kante pretty much alone did for those cloggers at Leicester) so a major difference maker in MF like Keita would improve all aspects of our game.
I don't really care - either of them will improve the team so I'll be happy if we sign either of them.
Moreno doesn't have the tactical acuity or skill to be a winger. Nice as a late game sub to run at a tired defense or break on counters - for sure. Start a match there and use non-existent guile and craft? Not his forte.
