https://www.yahoo.com/gma/early-evi...cer-teams-003905297--abc-news-topstories.html The charter flight departed Bolivia on Monday just before 6:20 p.m. local time. A little over four hours later, the flight began what appears to be a holding pattern just south of the Medellin airport for about 13 minutes. According to flight data from FlightRadar24, the plane made three circles, descending from 21,000 feet to 15,550 feet for the last two minutes of available flight data. The flight's destination, Maria Cordova International Airport outside Medellin, is a notoriously difficult airport for pilots. The runway is at 7,000 feet, surrounded by mountainous terrain. Frequent adverse weather conditions can make visibility difficult. Approaching an airport at that elevation requires high approach speeds, creating an even greater challenge in poor conditions. There were scattered thunderstorms in the area at the time of the crash, and turbulence could have been present, according to ABC News meteorologist Melissa Griffin. The airport's official Twitter account confirmed the plane suffered an electrical failure before the crash. While the consequences of an electrical failure can vary greatly, if the pilots lost navigational aids on approach to an airport like Medellin at night in poor visibility, that could spell serious trouble.
The explanation for the plane not making the usual refuel spot (still in Bolivia) is because that airport is closed at night as there are no lights on the runway. The Chapecoense flight from Brazil was delayed so they left Bolivia late. Not sure why they couldn't stop in Bogota as mentioned in some reported news. Sounds like the pilot thought it'd be bad for business to make Chapecoense get to Colombia the next day.
Also if he had to stop and refuel in Bogata, he'd have to pay extra (as a co-owner of the airline). And when they were experiencing trouble, he didn't state early on he was low on fuel to the air traffic controller which is why the other plane got clearance to land first. I guess he didn't want to let them know that he was low on fuel since he'd get in trouble and because he thought they'd still have a chance to land.
Sporting Cristal will play the return league of their Peruvian semi final game on Sunday with a green shirt in honour of Chapecoense http://rpp.pe/futbol/descentralizad...erde-ante-deportivo-municipal-noticia-1013820 they traditionally wear sky blue
from an aviation standpoint it is a fascinating situation as appears that he was already in a holding pattern when the other plane also declared an emergency flying in from a lower altitude...guess we'll need to wait and see how the investigation pans out.
Even if CBF wants to have the game, there is no serious repercussions for not showing up to the game. It would just count as a WO . But CBF is saying they have to go through the procedure of attempting to actually have a game played since there is nothing in the rulebook to cancel a game for good. it's really stupid.
Some of the names are ridiculous to consider, but a decent list of players who could go to Chape.... http://www.lance.com.br/futebol-nac...adores-que-poderiam-reforcar-equipe-2017.html
My two cents: Inter Milan sends Gabigol to Chapecoense! From the list above: Please, no Adriano Imperador, and no Ronaldinho Gaucho! These would be a waste of time...
This may sound rude but it'd probably do a disservice to Chape sending the likes of Ronaldinho and/or Adriano at this time. They need to build a competitive squad with players who actually give a sh*t about football.
That's not rude at all. Ronaldinho's brother is a known opportunist. I'm pretty sure he's solely worried as to how this would benefit him and his $$$
CONMEBOL as expected declared Chapecoense the champions of Copa Sudamericana. They will make next year's group phase in the Libertadores. Not sure what Atletico Nacional's situation is in their domestic league, but I'd like to see them included as well.
We are the current Copa Libertadores champions, We have automatic entry to the group phase, so you will see us included!
Colombians are fabulous. This was the most incredible display of solidarity. My sister has worked as a consultant in Colombia (as well as in many other countries) and said they are the kindest people she's ever seen. For me any rivalry with Colombia in terms of the national teams is forgotten and forgiven. I tip my hat to Colombians. They are classy.
Brazil is supposed to be playing a friendly vs Colombia on January 22nd to benefit the victims and families of the crash!!
