76 deaths out 81 people on the plane. Tragic. And it'd be more tragic to know that disaster could have been avoided.
I'm in shock. So ********ing horrible. This was supposed to be a moment of great joy. The biggest two games in club history. Words can't express how devastating this is.
This is such terrible news. Chapecoense have been such a good story. They were living a dream. Former player and FOX Sports commentator Mario Sergio was also on board. RIP

If Chapecoense is declared the Sul-Americana champ, they'll be in the Libertadores next year. Who wants to face them and be left feeling guilty for beating them? How can they compete when they've lost half their squad? A squad filled with big team rejects or young players off loan won't cut it. It'll be an uphill battle for them just to remain in the first division. Is there really any good solution for the club's short term future?
Only thing I can think of are some free agent players agreeing to take less just to help Chapecoense for a year or two. I'm not sure how many would make that "sacrifice", but they'd be idolized in the city for sure.
My first thoughts after checking if Alan Ruschel was still alive. From a pragmatic view they really shouldn't participate in the libertadores and like we said in the comembol thread, no1 from europe is going to send a few players on loan, they'll make tons of social media posts tho. And you are right whoever beats them will feel guilty , it will be a series b team maybe less with guys like Roger Gaucho and maybe a decent serie a player or two like paulinho or gabriel from flamengo
Well, they have to start somewhere, and the fact that it'll be "big team rejects" and "young players" could serve as extra motivation. Such a squad won't approach the Santos of Pelé or the SPFC of 1992-1993, but with enough teamwork and training and with good coaching, they will still work hard and do their best. This is a huge blow. Had this happened to SPFC, Palmeiras, or Corinthians - well-funded big-name sides - it would've been horrible as well, but these teams have more resources. Chapecoense has a lot less. But it will have to start from scratch and I believe that it will dar a volta por cima, even if it takes a while.
and as you know, in these small clubs in small cities a lot of fans know the players. It's pretty crazy.
They have to find a new coach too. Caio Jr was a good fit. A manager who had a promising future early in his career and fell straight on his rear when he received big team opportunities. He found a nice little place where the pressure was low and he could be appreciated. Before all this modern coach talk started, he was one of Brazil's first "modern minded" coaches when he appeared with Parana in '06-'07. He was big into analyzing data and using data to drive his decisions. Ideally, the only name that I think would have an immediate impact is Guto Ferreira, who knows the club really well. Unfortunately, I doubt he'd leave Bahia after getting them promoted and seeing how it's a higher profile job.
