The Flash had 5 picks consisting of the last picks in each of the 4 rounds (#9, 18, 27, 36) and #14. In a way, they were hurt by their success in '13. Their last two picks did not make the opening roster, but most of the last 11 picks of the draft did not make their teams. the #14 did not show up (one of several who did not in the league). #18 Wys made it as a backup-backup GK. The disappointing one was #9 Verloo who was eventually released by the team.

Even though Sydney lost, guess who got another goal for them? Knocking on wood that Jas keeps her form for us next season.

Another Sydney match, another goal for Jas. This time a late equalizer to snatch a point against Brisbane.

Come on, Jas. Save some of those for the Flash, won't ya?

I just spoke with some Flash season ticket holders who are upset about Carli Lloyd being traded, and so they're not sure if they'll be renewing their season tickets. They're also aware that Abby won't be around as much again next year due to WWC.

    :( That's not good.

Speaking for myself, while I'm still pissed off about the deal, this is my team, and I'm not going to stop supporting them just because a player I happen to support has left, and to be honest was the reason I began to support the Flash.

But on the other hand, I can see why some fans would be upset about Carli being traded. She was one of the main reasons we weren't eliminated until the last week of the season and gave everything she had for two years. And while the players we got in return are most likely still going to be playing- hopefully for us- when Carli hangs up her boots, they aren't nearly the same draw as she is.

It's going to be up to the FO to find a way to keep the season ticket holders coming back, and I hope they do.

Thanks for the report. Spread the word - Becky and Whitney are Flash players at heart and both very likable. Jordan Angeli is an exciting player and a fun person as well.

    Engen:
    Edwards:

    Angeli - watch 0:00 through 1:50:

Can one of y'all talk me off the ledge here? Why on earth did we trade Williamson and McCall for a card-prone hack?

I think Brooks has a lot more potential than she showed with Portland. I've seen some videos of her playing with Bayern and it's like she's a different player. Though, I'm not sure she's worth those 2 players, I was expecting WNY to get another draft pick in addition, tbh.

(And a bit amusing you call her a card-prone hack, when Lloyd and Zerboni led the league in fouls committed)

McCall Zerboni had 45 fouls for WNY, your calling Brooks a hack?

The better question why is WNY trading for DM when they have Edwards.

There are formations that use two DMs. Houston had Edwards and Bock/Kyle. KC has Buczkowski and Richmond. Seattle has Winters and Fishlock.

So what you're saying is she doesn't commit enough fouls? ;)

Shot to the solar plexus - ouch. We kinda knew McCall was going, but Williamson? IMO either one straight up for Brooks is maybe a fair deal. I am not a Brooks fan at all. This seems at least as unbalanced as last year's Vero Bouquette's rights for Williamson and Wetzel. Quid pro quo?

I was feeling OK about Becky, Whitney, and Angeli, but that lasted a few minutes.

It really did hurt to read that McCall was for sure gone. What a great person!

    I hate you :p

Now the concern is not having enough CB. With both Williamson and Barczuk leaving, that only leaves Taylor and Engen.

I wasn't expecting them to draft her, but there is a chance they could get Abby Dahlkemper if SBFC goes for Killion or Mewis. There are also some decent CBs to be found later in the draft.

That might be the worst trade of the year. Zerboni (good) and Williamson (fair) for Brooks (fair). Ugh.

And yes, I hope AD Franch comes back. To my mind she was the goalie of the year in the NWSL in 2013 -- and should be annointed as the likely successor to Hope Solo on the National Team.

Yes, trade is confirmed by tweets from both the Thorns and WNY. Portland needs a central defender and got one. And, I think Riley wasn't that thrilled with Brooks (although I liked her). I think he got what he wants -- and the two for one might be salary cap balancing? I don't think Brooks was inexpensive.

Any word on Sahlen's status for next season? Is she planning on returning for us?

At this point I won't be surprised if Lines traded Sahlen and the new baby for Cat Whitehill

 That's not funny. That's a move worthy of Boston's many boneheaded decisions.
