I disagree for many reasons: 1) AFA has no money anywhere to pay for Guardiola. They would need to involve the government, and that would be a very bad faux pas considering the economic situation of the country. 2) Guardiola left Barça for Bayern because he had squeezed what he could out of the Barcelona players at the time. Messi is rumoured to have been a source of a lot of conflict. 3) Messi will be 35 when Qatar comes around, with his friends not that far behind. Building Argentina around what Messi wants is, at this point, crying over spilled milk.
There’s also a chance the next national team manager could be a total random dude like Osorio when he came. That came way out of left field.
Good counterpoints. I was not aware that Messi was rumored to have been behind the conflict. I will say that part of the problem with Argentina is that there appears to be a huge disconnect between their reality and expectations. Outside of Messi, Aguero, Dybala, and Higuain (and if you push me Di Maria and Banega), they don't have any truly elite players. I don't think that even with ideal coaching this team would have been a true contender.
Icardi is better than Higuain and probably Aguero now... They all supposedly hate Icardi so I guess its a moot point...
Throw Icardi on to the list too...Regardless, you can only have so many offensive players on the field at once.
He wasn't in MLolS very long before this World Cup so there wasn't quite enough time for the league to make him shitty. And he's prime age of 29... I can't imagine that his abilities won't have eroded considerably by playing in such an inferior league for a few seasons
I'm afraid they're done... I hope I'm wrong but I also think Vela will be done after a season and a half in MLolS.
His game won't be as sharp after a few seasons in MLolS. He was only there for a half season before this WC. Not quite enough time for him to deteriorate. And time is also not on his side...
MLS is less than ideal but if he keeps up his level I don’t see why we wouldn’t use him, his skill set sets him apart from the rest. If he declines in league play or for Mexico then ofc he shouldn’t be called up.
the thing is that your level dropping in MLS is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when and Vela is already 30 with a fitness level comparable to 40 year old Rafa Marquez
Even if Vela had stayed in Europe, he isn't a lock for next WC because of age. Players don't all necessarily deteriorate at the same rate but there is a massive difference in physical ability at age 29 and age 33 for most players... Combine that with playing in a subpar league against mediocre opposition and it doesn't look favorable for Vela...
C’mon guys. Vela’s game doesn’t rely on speed. He ages like wine. He will just become a full time #10. At 33, he can still pull a solid world cup performance...but that’s very far away for now...
U guys need to be more objective. Ur hate against the US national team blinds your objectivity. Nad this nad that.. This recent concacaf champions cup of mls vs liga mx was pretty competitive. Also, a more competitive mls league will be good for mexico’s football.
Guys, I think MLS is a crap corny league as much as the next guy (unless that person is @thedragonrik58 ) but to say stuff like he’ll forget how to pass for playing in it is dumb. If there’s a better player that can replace Vela, then by all means drop him, but until then idc if he plays in MLS as long as he still plays well. Giovinco showed he can still ball in CCL last season..why can’t Vela be like that.
