Jill Ellis would be an inspired choice for head coach.

Arsene Wenger - if you want to both create a splash and build a contending team, why not?

Well, if we can’t be good, we can at least be interesting.

We don't have the depth to get away with the shit she would do. I'd rather have Tony Gustavsson.

So is next year going to be like Ben's 5th rebuilding year? Anyone else getting tired of rebuilding years?

maybe it is time to just bring in someone who hasn't already proved they are average at best. Some who has shown he has overachieved wherever he has been. At least the team would get better as the season goes. With exception of the Rooney boosted team last year, we just get worse as the season goes on.

ESPN is reporting that RSL just fired Mike Petke. Would we want that wanker to replace Ben?

Unfortunately tonight’s win bought Ben the rest of the season.

Proof, as if any was needed, that some people hate Ben Olsen more than they love the team.

That explains the "protest" by the Barra/DU drummers during the first half last night.

I said "Barra/DU drummers". I know the Barra as a whole didn't, but their drummers took it upon themselves. Unless I've been misinformed and La Banda is wholly separate from the Barra now.

Happy for the win, love the team, don't think Ben is the guy (haven't thought that since 2013). It really isn't that hard to rationalize the above. We aren't absolultists. As many people state, our FO is not going to pull the trigger on a new coach as long as DC is mediocre. Mediocre is a DC sports tradition. In a city where there is no media, fan, or player pressure, and as long as a coach doesn't spank a player or pull a Petke they are safe.

Our FO and ownership group needs to be replaced by people who have high expectations of everyone from the GM to the Physio.

If you can't see my point of view than perhaps the myopia is on your side.

I grew up in VA and lived there for 20 years. I'm only 19 years in LA.

During the majority of my time in DC - the Wizards sucked, the Caps choked, the Football team went from class to crass. DC United was the shining light of excellence and we (here on BS and elsewhere) would comment that DCU was basically ignored by the DC sports Media. In the last decade DCU were sucked into the morass that the rest of the DC teams have lived in for decades.

Also - Thorrington is a better GM than Kasper.

That thread made me roll my eyes so hard, I've got a headache now.

The implication that most of the crowd was somehow uncomfortable last night is silly. It was a good game, and the crowd was loud, even without the drummers.

These guys think they're way more important than they really are. They certainly add to the atmosphere, but their constant drama queening is a little much.

There is definitely a not insignificant subset of some supporters (particularly in DU) who think there would be no atmosphere at all at a DC United game without them. I didn't even notice anything was amiss the first half until some people near me were talking about it, so, *shrug*.

Taken from DU's Facebook page, to give you a sense of the mentality some DUers have:

"Unless you are at game regularly and in the trenches with the supporters on a day to day basis helping with tifo helping with set up helping with drums planning road trips helping with tailgate waving a flag for 90 minutes going on road trips and putting up with the bullshit you don't get to complain."

I mean, having the supporters section and the atmosphere they bring is cool and all. But, it's not like they've been impressed into service and forced to drum and chant to avoid the lash. This is something they do voluntarily and, supposedly enjoy. They're not Jesus dying on the cross for the rest of our sins.
