This is the Fire Porter thread. I'm not on the Kill Caleb bandwagon but this is a conservative hire with an inexplicably large salary and length. I'm cautiously hopeful.
COACHBOT9000 is not impressed by your puny SuperDraft. Smile! 😃 // #SuperDraft by @adidassoccer 📷: Andy Mead pic.twitter.com/Fc3Y4SPUlX— Major League Soccer (@MLS) January 11, 2019
Are we sure he isn't calculating how many consecutive wins he needs to bring his career win percentage equal to tactical genius Mike Petke?
Again, you are assuming they could. We don't know who they talked to, what they offered, and what the coach said. Is it possible they only went after caleb porter after getting turned down by gbs? sure. Is it also possible they talked to 20 other candidates, were rebuffed 20 times, then went after caleb? sure. loser mentality lol. We arent barca, madrid, or man u. shit, we aint even red bull, atlanta, or LA (both). They will always have more money to spend than us and more glamour than us. does that mean we cant beat them? No. Does that mean we shouldn't expect to win the league? No. Does it mean we will never be a top tier job, either domestically or internationally? Yes. It does.
This isn't really the place for this thought but here goes. I hope for the day that MLS coaching is the place to prove yourself a master. Unlike the other leagues of the world, MLS and it's unique structure provides a challenge for a manager. Winning games when you have hundreds of millions of dollars in players at your disposal when most of your opponents have a fraction of that isn't exactly rocket science. MLS is like the old IROC racing searies. Give each driver the same car and then see who is best. MLS is leaning more to the haves and have nots of the rest of the world lately. I'd like a return to a harder cap with fewer exceptions and loopholes. Then turn the coaches and TDs loose and see who can Football Manager their way to a championship.
Pretty underwhelming first draft of the Caleb Porter era. At least it will hopefully be the last, one way or another.
You need chill out. I think GBS was choice 1a and beyond that Porter is the best coach we could get and was 1b. I don’t know why GBS said No but I’m all in with Porter after listening to the podcast. I think with more resources than GB had that he will be more successful and that he is the right man for the job. I thought we made the right draft pick. If he can beat out Mullins at some point great if not we aren’t paying him and we need a 3rd striker Incase of injury. I didn’t see and DM or outside backs that would start for us so to me it was brilliant. I think Porter is genuine in his love for Crew and he understands MLS better than GBS because experience. He is the right man for the job and can hopefully build the franchise to a higher level so that if he moves on next time we have a coaching change we will have better options. I do think GB improved the Crew unlike RW who left the kitchen empty.
