Seriously? Pipa's pk was VERY well taken. Side ********ing netting. Hamid - who's a solid keeper - guessed correctly and wasn't able to ge at hand on it. I certainly agree that Kamara's PK was poor. I also felt it was a somewhat soft call. But here's there thing: First, we didn't squander either PK opportunity last weakened, and we kept a clean sheet. The better team won last Saturday.
Our future head coach is named Gio, not Geo. Geo is a less fashionable shirt sponsor than the one that our benevolent overlords Tony Precourt and company secured for us. Savarasse scored over 40 goals in 3 seasons with the MetroStars. He was a super-sub of the most terrifying kind. In the early days of MLS I hated him as much, if not more, than Steve Rommel another guy who didn't look like he should be scoring goals but did for DCU at a pretty stupid clip.
Apparently there is a lot of chatter than RSL are taking a hard look at Savaresse. Also, they wanted to talk to NY assistant Chris Armas, but he declined.
Saw that earlier. Part of me is skeptical. If Savarase comes in with Petke coaching the Monarchs there will be a butting of heads. Two guys who (presumably) want to be MLS coaches and one will now have a job while a Supporter's Shield winner sits with the B team. That said, if Savarase comes in, and has a full RSL academy system and B team there and has control....it's probably more attractive than this relationship that we have with Pittsburgh. These are the (not so) small things that matter.
3G is showing tactical flexibility. First the 3-4-1-2 then a 4-2-3-1 with Affull pulled in and way back and Finlay on the touchline. What is going on here?
We beat a team in Columbus that's won exactly one road game in the 16 months since they embarrassed us provided the rest of the league a blueprint to defeat us. Which the rest of the league has, repeatedly and without mercy. Am I glad that we defeated vaunted road warriors Portland Timbers without Nagbe? Absolutely. Caleb Porter is an asshole. I'm not sure why you'd be confused unless you place extreme value in small sample sizes, don't understand the concept of games in hand, or believe trophies should be awarded after 2, 3, or 4 games. The fundamental problems remain the same. We can do better.
I do like that we've added occasional direct balls to our toolbox. I think it caught Portland off guard, expecting us to do the same old cross-from-the-wing every time.
Totally agree. Portland is an attacking team that came in with tons of confidence. There were always gonna be opportunities for goals in this one (as I predicted in the match thread) and we came out victorious (as I also predicted)!
GB has changed things up 2 games in a row, which is what literally everyone, pro or anti GB, wanted. Its only two games, but baby steps. He's also playing youth and newly signed players: Crognale, Artur, Hansen, Raitala, Steffen. Thats something else everyone wanted. Still not perfect, but he is changing.
Our coach lacks consistency. Why can't he pick a system that works and stick with it. Fire the coach!
Agreed. And kudos to Gregg for doing something new. I am very interested to see how the new formations play out when a coach with less hubris than Caleb Porter uses the tried and true bunker and counter-attack method against us.
Real Salt Lake has done us a favor in hiring Mike Petke, leaving Giovanni Savarase still available if we get off our asses and fire Berhalter!
