Not to get too far afield from the firing of Berhalter, but the player we traded for Razov in 2005 was Tony Sanneh. Who, lest we forget, in 2004 insisted that he take a crucial penalty kick in Game 2 of the Conference semi-finals, missed it, and apparently slapped around a young Chad Marshall in the playoffs. http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/sanneh-locker-room-cancer.168303/ Bill at that time:
I haven't seen this much hysterical behavior since the day after Curt Kobain's suicide, when I saw our school counselor trying to calm down a bunch of wailing stoner girls who'd been cutting themselves with plastic knives in the cafeteria...
Say what you want about 3G but you can't say he is timid. Brass Ones! He will be judge for years on the success or failure of this trade.
And the team we were playing in the 2004 playoffs were none other than the New England Revolution. Man I hate that team.
And the haters gonna hate too. If we end up at the bottom with Chicago, I will join you. There is a reason why the Crew now have half a million in allocation money. And my bet is it isn't to buy Brad Guzan.
We are just one step above the bottom dwelling fire right now. Shows how much good our team uniting over paid Kamara was doing for us!
Well, before we hire the next coach, this book should probably be on AP's reading list post haste: http://www.amazon.com/Real-Leaders-Dont-Do-PowerPoint/dp/0307407705 (When I heard of this book not long ago, my first thought was "Berhalter!")
Wait, do people really think Berhalter should be fired? I get being unhappy the way things were handled. But, really? If you saw him in person you'd say, "Gregg I think it's time for you to go now?" Or, "Anthony, you should definitely fire Gregg.?" Or is it just comforting to have a forum (literally) to vent frustration with our really good player leaving in an unsavory way?
Is this a real question? Isn't it obvious from reading the thread. Even if you only read the title? Not that I think that. I'm not very happy with him. I don't think he manages players all that well. He doesn't try to adjust to other teams almost at all during games (or doesn't so a great job of it. I don't think he has a very good defense, which I would expect since he was a former defender. But he also has done pretty well here thus far. If we don't recover and make the playoffs, he should be canned. Unless we pretty much win out following the trade window (assuming he brings a new player in that contributes), and still don't make the cut, and feel confident that we'll bounce back next year
