Treble for Clattenburg this year. He also reffed the Chelsea/Tottenham match that served as the league title-clinching game for Leicester. Thx, Jay!
Just to be proactive: I can't believe he gave that call to [insert team name here] on [insert critical match incident here]! He's unbelievably missed [insert potential imaginary call here]! Wow, he and crew really should have seen [insert likely Pepe foul here]! There, now to make sure my TV is set to "Mute Commentators".
Pity the duo of Champion and Robson are not working the match. They were the best IMO. Ian Darke is also very good, but Twellman is annoying. Too many "Are you kidding me?" Maybe he is listening to John McEnroe on the Wimbledon coverage! PH
Really didn't think it was a foul. Even if it was, Ronaldo gets injured regardless of whether Clattenburg calls the foul or not.
That last OS/GK decision was very interesting. IMHO, since the attacker didn't actually become involved, it should have been a corner.
Overall not a bad performance from Clattenburg, but certainly not as good as the UCL final or his previous EURO matches.
I thought some of his yellow cards were unnecessary. Could have gotten away with more game management. And the handling call was a big mistake -- he was lucky that the shot hit the bar, as others have mentioned already.
If Clatts couldn't tell the difference between Koscielny's white arm and Eder's black arm then maybe he is truly innocent of the Chelsea racism allegations.
And god forbid someone bump his head on someone/something. Then you get 20 minutes of concussion protocol from Twellman.
I used to worry about missing handball calls in the area where I couldn't tell who the arm belonged to. Then I decided to relax, because if I couldn't tell which team the arm belonged to, it probably wasn't deliberate. (Which may not be logical, but at least I don't worry as much anymore.)
I give the guy a break. His concussion was truly disabling. He didn't have dream for like 3 years after his concussion.
And he's not wrong. The way concussions have been handled in sports has been bad and soccer seems to be lagging behind in figuring it out (at least at the pro level).
Exactly. As long as players that have been knocked out cold are still coming right back on the pitch, we need more people like him stressing how badly it's handled.
Fair enough, but not going on and on about it when he is supposed to be working the match in front of him. I know he was a victim and target of the thuggery that was rampant in MLS when he played, and he got very little protection from the weak referees of that era who were afraid of giving out red cards. One of these nasty players played for Colorado, but there were others, some also now do TV work! PH
