So, I checked MLSSoccer.com after watching the Mexican Grand Prix to see that LA was up 2-0 in the 51st and decided that I knew enough to continue to be tuned out. Completely shocked to see that Houston found a way to win... LA found a way to lose? Wow. Just. Wow.
Well it was a damn good day. I had a guy from Tinder ask if I wanted to watch the game with him, but it was already 2:15 so I declined. After I realized it was only on weird ass stations, I told him that I was available after all. When we met up, he'd found the stream on YouTube and played it over his data connection while we got to know each other. That's the way to this lady's heart. And then watching Houston score twice... Dayum. Thanks for the dumb luck, LA and Houston!
Seems typical to back into the playoffs. I'd laugh if we somehow won it all. I feel like we don't belong at all. There are some nice glimpses of what we're capable of here and there, but we're clearly a few pieces shy of being much better.
No no no! We are now in the playoffs and the end result will be a MLS Cup! All the pieces are, and have been on the cusp of being complete, now that we are in Petke will lead us to the cup! We earned it and we will win it! Viva RSL!
Wow. Just wow. These games were all starting at about 3 am for me so I didn't even think about watching. I did check the scores immediately after waking up though. At first I thought my morning haze was throwing off my understanding but then it slowly settled in....RSL to the playoffs. Dare I hope? Unfortunately I'll miss most of the RSL/LAFC match because of work/time zones and if I can justify to sneak away for soccer I should really be at my daughter's end-of-season soccer tournament across town. RSL always seems to do better when I don't watch though....so there's that. The question for me is whether Petke goes back with the standard line up that has not really produced lately or does he try something a bit different. I would hope for the latter. This opportunity seems to be a bit of a fluke anyway (thanks Houston!) so I say run with the spirit of that and roll the dice with some unusual and unexpected personal/line up changes against LAFC.
Ah, but if we watch together, at a bar in New York City? Might need to keep that in mind for some future MLS Cup.
That is certainly one of my best RSL fan memories. Great CCL game. Although it does remind me that not watching isn't always helpful. I was stuck on flight from JFK to SLC during the infamous CCL final.
Yes. Compared to 2009 the differences between the top of the league and the just-squeaked-in are now much larger. I'd be very surprised if we advanced past SKC. I think our chances of winning at LAFC are better than usual, if longer rest is an advantage (questionable with this team which did not take advantage earlier in the year).
The LAFC/SKC match yesterday was a blood bath. LAFC has to turn around and play us on 3 days of rest. While I still think they will win I believe we will make them earn it.
