Oh, it's sooooo horrible. Gimme a break. Your post tells me nothing. So none of those shows are good? Come on. And the reality shows have been excellent this past year.

Especially 'Who's Your Daddy' and 'Britney and Kevin: Chaotic', which made the XFL on NBC look like MASH, quality-wise, at its zenith. :)

This list shows why I'd rather be on the internet then watch TV.

Let me clarify, then. Obviously, not every single television program on network television is crap. But the "reality" shows are crap. If you want to watch people who should be singing at Disney World shows or on cruise ships compete for a record deal, or if you want to watch people eat elk penis souffle to win money, that's fine. I'd rather spend my tv time watching HBO or Comedy Central.

Why are they crap, cause they aren't what you like? That's moronic.

Television is entertainment. Be it people eating elk penis for cash as you say or people reading lines they didn't write to portray a dramatic story, or some crack head comedian swearing up a storm in the name of comedy. It's all just entertainment. People like different things. We have dramas, comedies, sports, reality, news, documentary and others that are all just simple entertainment. None are better than the other just because you don't like it. It's entertainment. Lots of people have proven day after day that reality programming is entertaining. And since it obviously accomplishes what it set out to do, you really can't say that reality programming is any crappier than anything HBO or Comedy Central puts out. In fact, it many of thoise shows seem to be doing a much better job entertaining the most people than anything HBO or Comedy Central has ever put out.

Exactly. I don't care that somebody doesn't like it, but don't come off with that attitude.

dude, you do the same exact thing to people all the time - you can thumpity dump all you like, but let's all face it: most reality tv shows are utter cack horded up by people too uninspired to go live a reality show of their own

"american idol" is one thing... "wife swap" is quite another

But people watch them. You can't deny it. People go out of their way to watch wife swap. They are thoroughly entertained by it. How can it be crap when it does exactly what it is designed for?

I don't know why I needed to make these lists, but here they are nonetheless.

--edit: I figured out why I made the list. I made the list to demonstrate that there are plenty of shows on TV that are worth watching (to me or my wife), and that is actually sort of surprising. Of course don't forget to throw in the most important TV shows of all: SOCCER! It's probably 1/3 of my season passes on both Tivo's :D

Shows I or my wife watch
    CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
    Desperate Housewives
    CSI: Miami
    Grey's Anatomy
    ER
    Medium
    CSI: NY
    Boston Legal
    Law & Order: Criminal Intent
    Will & Grace
    Third Watch
    Medical Investigation
    The O.C.
    Less Than Perfect
    America's Next Top Model
    Charmed

Shows we watched and gave up on, or were cancelled
    Cold Case (gave up)
    House, M.D. (gave up)
    Numbers (gave up)
    The Simple Life (gave up)
    Hawaii (cancelled)
What I Like About You (gave up)
Britney & Kevin: Chaotic (gave up after 1 episode)
    Jack & Bobby (cancelled)
    The Mountain (cancelled)

Shows we watch that aren't on this list of rated shows
    Deadwood
    Carnivale
    Six Feet Under
    Starting Over
    North Shore
    Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares
Lots of crappy home improvement and home buying shows (worse than ANY reality show)
    Lots of cooking shows.

Jack and Bobby was a great show, but I now know why it was cancelled. I'm suprised to see Scrubs with such low ratings....anyone know if it's been renewed?

people watch jerry springer too, people buy lots of 50 cent records, millions eat at chili's... meanwhile hardly anybody watches arrested development, ben folds five split up because they weren't selling records and i know 100 great restaurants that always seem practically empty

ummm yeah i think i can promise you popularity and quality are not inherently linked

So basically, if you don't like them, then it's crap. That's your entire argument.

    You're smrt. S-M-R-T smrt.

It's entertainment. That's all. If millions and millions of people are tuning in to see Jerry Springer instead of the morning news or whatever else may be on, it's because they choose to do so. They enjoy watching it. If people go to Chili's and stand in line insterad of going to one of your great 100 restaurants where nobody is eating, then clearly they chose to go there because they like what the restaurant offers. If Fiddy Cent is selling platinum record after platinum record and Ben Fold has done just that, then clearly people would rather hear Fiddy Cent. They have that option. They choose the one that they like better. How is that so hard to understand? Why is it crap if so, so many people like it so much better than what you think is great?

You want to make sure your favorite shows stay and you get rid of "crappy' shows?

Get rid of your TiVo and campaign for every other person you know to get rid of it, too.

TiVo is what's killing your television programming. You say you love Arrested Development. Great. I do too. But yet it sits sitting at the bottom ready to get cancelled. Yet at the same time, it's the most TiVoed comedy on television. But do you think a single time that that show is viewed after being recorded is counted for it's ratings? Hell no. You know how shows stay on the air? The ratings system. Love it or hate it, it's there. And TiVo ruins shows in the ratings game, plain and simple.

You do know that you don't count in the ratings unless you are one of the pre-selected Nielsen households, right?

Oh, my bad. I was unaware that all Nielson Households had been swept free of all TiVos.

    My bad.

If that's what you had written, then I wouldn't have said anything. But you didn't.

Even if a Nielson Household had TIVO, it would still count the show as "watched" because the tuner would have to record the show at it's proper time. How would TIVO ruin this rating? Maybe I'm missing your point.

I hope coming in #102 is good enough to get The Office renewed. At least it is encouraging that it is #82 in the more prized demographics.
