https://www.fifa.com/news/y=2018/m=12/news=the-week-in-numbers-x9562.html says: "23 years was how long the city of Atlanta had gone without winning a major sporting trophy until Atlanta United ended the drought by conquering the MLS Cup. After the Atlanta Braves won baseball’s World Series in 1995, the Beat (WUSA), Braves (MLB), Dream (WNBA), Falcons (NFL), Glory (NBL), Hawks (NBA) and Thrashers (NHL) had all failed to triumph."
Among "major" sports, anyway. The now defunct Atlanta Knights (more known for featuring a female goalie) won a title for minor league hockey, and a year or two ago the Georgia Swarm won whatever lacrosse league in which they play.
I thought the Knights were the breeding ground for grooming NHL goons, and that was their appeal. I forgot about their female goal keep. I don't know much about hockey or the quality of the product, but those games were both fun and affordable.
