a stadium in Toronto (30,000)... "The FIFA grant money, announced Wednesday, will be used for "design, investigation, economic, business modelling, architectural plans and so on," Kevan Pipe, chief operating officer of the Canadian Soccer Association, said from Ottawa." http://www.canoe.ca/Slam021106/soc_csa-cp.html Yay! Other countries to receive grants (look at the company Canada is in) "Afghanistan, China PR, Guam, Indonesia, Iraq, Oman (all AFC); Cameroon, Chad, Congo DR, Eritrea, Gabon, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, Mauritius, Togo (all CAF); Barbados, Bermuda, Canada, Cayman Islands, St. Kitts & Nevis (all CONCACAF); Uruguay (CONMEBOL); American Samoa, Tahiti (both OFC); Andorra, France, Greece, Israel, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and Ukraine (all UEFA)." http://www.fifa.com/Service/MR_M/46398_E.html
Sorry Lazio, TO isn't going to get an MLS team. FAce the reality. The stadium will only go ahead if they can get the Argos on board.
I was thinking the same thing today. They need the Argos, and well all know they are looking for a new stadium. Hopefully some thing can be worked out....
The CSA has clearly stated that they intend to do this on their own. If it means of leaving the Argos out (Canadian Football Team - CFL) ... then so be it.
Toronto's professional gridiron team, playing in the Canadian Football League. They play in the Skydome currently, but its almost universally-agreed upon that they need a new & smaller outdoor facility to play in rather than the cavernous, overly-expensive Skydome. Right now the CSA has momentum so the Argos may indeed jump on board if more progress is made with the stadium. Once new stadium is built, an MLS team in Toronto becomes a possibility, since there would now at least theoretically be a suitable venue for an MLS team & more attractive for potential investors. Whether that scenario is probable, rather than possible, who can really say with any authority at this point.
I hope they do put an MLS team in Toronto so that the rest of the Canadian soccer community doesn't have to hear about it anymore.
Hey now, if France can get monies for this, why not throw us poor sods to the south of you a bone? A little prod like that could get the ball rolling for Dallas and Denver at least, I think.
