You know what? I like this squad - young, up-and-coming players with something to prove, rather than Germany sending their A-team on a glorified vacation like they did in 1999. And FIFA can live with it as well - Löw's leaving world-class footballers home, but not much in terms of star power. For the Confed Cup to get media traction (beyond the likes of Sánchez and Vidal), FIFA are ride-or-die with CR7.
Ronaldo needs the rest, Portugal should leave him off, the world cup is far more important..especially with the young talent around him now Portugal could do something next year with a well rested Ronaldo. Look at how he's performing for Real Madrid the past month after getting periodic rests early in the new year.
I think Cristiano wants to win as many trophies as he can and this may be one of his last chances to do so.

I know it is just a friendly but Mexico in their first preparation match for WCQ and the Confederations Cup are looking pretty bad against an inexperienced Croatian team with none of their major stars on their roster.
Would much rather have them get their hiccups out of the way now and perform come tournament time than the other way around, like last year (1-0 win vs. Chile in a friendly right before the Copa América Centenario, where... )
I am more apathetic towards Mexico's results now since I do like their manager Osorio. I am rooting for him personally. (But if Mexico does not do well I won't be sad.)
Australian Squad for June games GoalKeepers Mat Ryan (Genk, Belgium), Mitchell Langerak (Stuttgart, Germany), Danny Vukovic (Sydney FC), Defenders Milos Degenek (Yokohama, Japan), Trent Sainsbury (Inter Milan, Italy), Bailey Wright (Bristol City, England), Brad Smith (Bournemouth, England), Aziz Behich (Bursaspor, Turkey), Dylan McGowan (Pacos de Ferreira, Portugal), Ryan McGowan (Guizhou Zhicheng, China), Midfielders Mile Jedinak (Aston Villa, England), Mark Milligan (Baniyas, UAE), Jackson Irvine (Burton, England), Aaron Mooy (Huddersfield, England), Massimo Luongo (QPR, England), Tom Rogic (Celtic), Strikers Tim Cahill (Melbourne City), Tomi Juric (FC Luzern, Switzerland), Mathew Leckie (Hertha Berlin, Germany), Robbie Kruse (Uncontracted), James Troisi (Melbourne Victory), Jamie Maclaren (Darmstadt, Germany), Ajdin Hrustic (Groningen, Netherlands). On the plus side we have a World Cup qualifier next week against Saudi Arabia at home, followed by a friendly game against Brazil also at home, so the squad will have had some time together and a couple of good matches going in. On the minus side, the teams we are playing seem to have better players than us.
This will be a great chance to get familiar with your team...you know, since we run into each other in November

Nobody has seemed to have posted it - Cameroon goind almost full no-name. Only recognizable players would be Onana, Oyongo (for MLS fans), Aboubakar, Moukandjo and Bassogog (for his ANC exploits). It's like 1990 all over again (BTW why is it Cameroon always seem to have a unrelenting stream of quality goalkeepers? I fail to remember a time when they did not have a quality GK): Goalkeepers: Fabrice Ondoa (FC Sevilla, Spain), Jules Goda (Ajaccio, France), Georges Bokwe (Mjondalen, Norway) Andrew Onana (Ajax Amsterdam, The Netherlands) Defenders: Ernest Mabouka (MSK Zilina, Slovakia), Collins Fai (Standard Liege, Belgium), Lucien Owona (Alcorcon, Spain), Michael Ngadeu (Slavia Prague, Czech Republic), Adolphe Teikeu (Sochaux, France), Mohammed Djettei (Tarragona, Spain), Ambroise Oyongo (Impact Montreal, Canada), Jonathan Ngwem (Sambizanga, Angola), Jerome Guihoata (Panionios, Greece), Jean Louis Castelletto (Red Star, France) Midfielders: Frank Boya (1860 Munich, Germany), Sebastien Siani (Oostende, Belgium), Arnaud Djoum (Hearts, Scotland), Georges Mandjeck (FC Metz, France), Zambo Anguissa (Marseille, France), Petrus Boumal (CSKA Sofia, Bulgaria) Forwards: Vincent Aboubakar (Besiktas, Turkey), Benjamin Moukandjo (Lorient, France), Christian Bassogog (Henan Jianye, China), Karl Toko (Angers CSO, France), Olivier Boumal (Panathinaikos, Greece), Jacques Zoua (FC Kaiserslautern, Germany), Robert Tambe Ndip (Spartak Trnava, Slovakia), Nicolas Ngamaleu (Rheindof, Austria), Jean Pierre Nsame (Servette, Switzerland), Edgard Salli (Nuremberg, Germany).
