Officially confirmed we're playing: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...y-Club-World-Cup-despite-fixture-pile-up.html
Whatever. Does this count as a "trophy"? Frankly I care more that LFC can say they've won 4 supercups. CWC, who cares?
If y'all want to get mad about us participating in a World Cup, be mad about this one... https://www.90min.com/posts/6482876...e-held-in-china-in-summer-2021/partners/40776
See post in other thread We will play EFL cup on Dec 17 Club World Cup Dec 18 So two teams. Some first teamers will probably fly to Qatar after the EFL.
Craziness! The team that plays Villa is going to be an under 23 team. You would think that even the fringe players will be going to Qatar. Where will Klopp be? Surely in Qatar. Who will even manage the “Liverpool” team that plays Villa?
Well... that's a real ********ing shame. I'm actually pleased the league cup is getting treated this way, it should really be a finger in the eye of the FA to do a better job sorting out their fixtures.
shamlessly stealing this one from the LFC subreddit... Our possible lineup for the Caribou cup/FIFA World Cup
The CWC is a FIFA run thing and they make the rules. And the rules are not favorable. According to FIFA, all teams/squads must be in situ in Qatar 3 days before either the team’s first game or the start of the tournament, forget which. Now crucially, and this is the fuc-ked bit, once the squad is in situ 3 days beforehand, it cannot be amended or added to. The rationale behind this wonderful rule is PR and marketing. All videos, photographs, interviews, programmes, etc. must have a set squads from the get-go. So any idea of leaving, say, Milner, Shaqiri, AOC, Lallana and Brewster behind and then flying them out to augment the team in Qatar is a non-starter. Word is that the Club have approached FIFA for a dispensation, but who knows?

So Flamengo take down River Plate with 2 late goals. Except for the Asian CL winner, all teams have been decided. Al Sadd and Hienghène Sport play each other. The winner plays Monterrey and we play the winner of that game in the semi. Knowing Juergen, he already has scouts in Saudi Arabia, New Caledonia and Mexico checking out opponents. I don’t expect anyone on here to know much about the first two sides, but what about Monterrey? They played against an MLS side in the CONCACAF CL?
I'll never turn down the chance to watch us play in any comp, but I honestly couldn't give a flea's fart about the CWC so the strengths or weaknesses of any of these teams is irrelevant to me. unless we end up facing a team that kicks the crap out of the oppo on a regular basis.
Unfinished business for me. Never won it and the last time we played it, we got done with 3 disallowed goals. I rate it above the Community Shield and European SuperCup; depending on my mood, sometimes I rate it above the League Cup, perhaps the equal of the FA Cup; other times, not. In its present iteration, of the 15 times it has been played, it has always been won by the European or South American side but on 4 occasions the there has been a non-European/South American side that has fought its way to the final.
Yeah, they made easy work of Atlanta (before FdB really had them clicking), one of the better American teams. They also slaughtered Kansas City in the semis, who went on to have a terrible season. They played their cross-town rivals in the final. They're a consistently good team by CONCACAF standards. That being said, they're basically the equivalent of Wolves or something similar. Maybe I'm being too generous. Norwich?
Are there any workers in Qatar earning more than that? With all the horrendous reports about working conditions, forced slavery, and death, why didn't we just stay home. We certainly have more leeway in pointing out the treatment of workers there than any of the countries that will compete at the WC do.
