Assuming Kim Little is healthy and plays in the 2019 Women's World Cup ........ After 2019 is over with, who is the BEST player in the world that we've never seen play in a World Cup now? Pernille Harder (Denmark) Nadia Nadim (Denmark) North Korean (random player) Janice Cayman (Belgium) Megan Campbell's long throw-in (Ireland) Pick your favorite Dottir from Iceland, and give her the wedding she deserves Anyone not from Romania will do Pick which one you think is the BEST.
Go Papua New Guinea! As it was mentioned elsewhere, ice fields in the home games could be their strong point.
Hard to say, but I am pretty sure who the best player that never even played a WWC qualification is. Tabitha Chawinga For some reason Malawi WNT only play in the COSAFA Women's Championship and some rare friendlies.
If Jamaica and Panama qualify, they'll just beat out Ivory Coast for the lowest ranked teams to qualify for the WWC(64 & 66, Ivory Coast was 67). Though their rankings will likely go up come December.
Mmm, according to what you write, it looks like they're anyway already higher ranked than Ivory Coast was... Which WWC Ivory Coast qualified to?
2015! They were in Thailand's group (and were the only reason Thailand being the "best of" the group-stage eliminations).
Oh, you're right. Ivory Coast had been so unimpressive back at the time that I had even forgot that it was the last WWC before next year's one!
Jamaica is better than people realize--and certainly better than its 64 world ranking. There aren't 63 teams in the world better than Jamaica; I'd venture to say there aren't 30 teams better than Jamaica.
Well, Jamaica's ranking will certainly go up after this tournament. However, suggesting they're a top 30 team is absolutely silly.
Really? Here are the teams ranked 24 to 30. We just saw Mexico--no. 24--and they are not very good. I've not seen Ukraine, Thailand or Russia play--but I'd be surprised if they were much better than Jamaica. 24 Mexico 1732 1724 1 25 Ukraine 1729 1731 -1 26 Russia 1705 1702 1 27 Colombia 1700 1722 -1 28 Thailand 1677 1684 0 29 Wales 1672 1679 0 30 Republic of Ireland
Mexico is, as we've seen, a team whose ranking is better than their actual strength. That means that beating them doesn't prove as much as you might think. Thailand is OK but their rating is a little inflated due to having caught Australia during Australia's spring slump. As for the rest... I definitely think Russia and Wales are noticeably better than Jamaica is. As mentioned above Ukraine is also much more likely to play a good game versus a top side than you're thinking. Same with Ireland, who held Netherlands to a draw in the Netherlands. Also, a bit further down the rankings, I'd say that Argentina, Portugal, Nigeria, and Chile are all definitely better than Jamaica too. Think of it another way, and look at their results this year so far. Yes, they just beat Costa Rica - but also lost to Costa Rica earlier in the year. Yes, they beat Colombia, but also lost to Venezuela. And though they beat Cuba soundly in the final round of CFU preliminary competition, they lost to Cuba earlier in the year and drew Haiti. So while they can score the occasional victory over teams in the 25-35 range, they're by no means consistent in doing so and can just as easily drop results to teams much lower than that. Compare that to everyone you just listed - in their respective qualifying competitions, the group of {MEX URK RUS COL THA WLS IRL} dropped a grand total of 12pts from 29 games against teams ranked worse than 30th - and more than half of those dropped points were just from Colombia who (as also evidence from their loss to Jamaica) are like Mexico: with a ranking higher than their current strength. In other words, even with the deflating MEX and COL included, the group is earning more than 2.5PPG against teams ranked worse than 30th. Conversely, Jamaica has dropped 11pts in 11 games against similarly ranked competition (out of 13 games played this year thus far) for just 1.66PPG. The clearly haven't earned a top-30 ranking because they don't have the consistency to have earned it.
That's good analysis--more than I'd be prepared to make, but it seems fair to say that Jamaica can be competitive with teams ranked significantly higher than it is, even as they are inconsistent. I'm sure they'll get waxed tonight.
Yup, usually CONMEBOL - they've played several matches against CONMEBOL opponents just this year too.
They have a friendly in England in two weeks actually, against Nottingham Forest who play in the third tier.

FC Utrecht stadium Galgenwaard has 24,000 seats. Wonder how long it takes to sell them. By the way, the name of the stadium has a halloween sinister touch to it as it means in English "Field of the gallows"
The stadium is on the place where they used to exhibit the executed bodies on wheels on a pole and of decapitated persons the head on a stake. It was done until about 1600! Images of how that would look like: So now it's the location of the stadium.
Maybe we should put in the Swiss dressroom pictures of the history of the pitch and let some bones stick out of the ground next to the goals
How the Netherlands or Denmark did not make the final WWC slots are pretty shocking considering they made a good run at the Euros not too long ago. It was pretty refreshing to see them dominating the other European teams.
