I just set my own record for fastest goal vs computer (world class skill level, world class goalie): 40 seconds/ 6 minute halves. What are your records?
So I recently got the game for PS2 and have been playing around with a bunch of teams (so many choices...and I'm so wishy-washy) but I've decided to go stick with my boys at Athletic Club Bilbao. Anyway, I got a good season going and played on Amateur difficulty level but deleted it because it just got boring having 8-1 games constantly and I just didn't like the "realism" of players with 15 goals less than halfway through the season so I upped it to Semi-Pro and started a new manager mode. It hasn't been bad, right now my team is 2-2-0 but I would like to know some tips that may help me actually win more games. My main problems are breaking away from defenders in the box and man marking. Any suggestions?
So I have much more fun in Fifa trying to create awesome teams on the cheap. Lately I've been using Barcelona and trying to make an all-star team of the best kids in the game. I know that I can just scout constantly and I'll find bad ass players but I enjoy them being actual people. As of right now this is my starting squad (I'm still missing a few parts tho): 4-1-2-1-2 Formation GK: Ochoa DEF: Puyol Abidal Richards Bale MID: Messi Denilson Kerlon Walcott ST: Pato Bojan Abidal and Puyol are obviously the ones that stand out being almost 10 years older than every other starter. I plan on replacing Puyol with Rafinha and Abidal maybe with Agger?. My biggest problem is that I just have too much offensive firepower to fit onto the field properly. Dos Santos is pretty highly rated but I just don't see him ever cracking the top 11 unless someone is injured. I've also toyed with the prospect of selling Ronaldinho but just haven't done it yet because I love doing moves with him in the game as a late-sub. 80mil might be hard to pass up though.
i'm in my third season as a manager. first 2 were leading galway utd to consecutive eircom league championships ... i started the first season on amateur, but leveled the difficulty up a notch to avoid the lopsided shutouts. for this third season, i jumped across the irish sea and grabbed chester city, trying to make the club into an english juggernaut. anyway, in response to your point, i've found the easiest way to create awesome teams "on the cheap" is to look at the free agent market when the transfer window is open. you should be able to grab some incredible players for no transfer fee, although their salary may be a bit high. your reputation as a manager needs to be pretty high (i'm at 8 i believe) in order to coax them into your squad. i was able to grab 3 highly influential players: kevin doyle, michael bradley, and nemanja vidic. this immediately jumped the team from a half-star to 2-star ranking, and has helped me compete (yet not necessarily win) against the likes of arsenal and chelsea in cup tourneys. i'll definitely be promoted to league 1, and i'll keep using this same strategy until i'm kicking butt in the prem.
Yes. I don't think all systems will let you do it, but on the PC you can still get the free agents and sell them for a huge profit. I turned FC Dallas into the best team in the game after about 10 years of building a huge bank account and then buying good players.
I kind of did the same when playing as RBNY, though I combined that with scouting and selling those players off. Only reason I stopped playing in MLS was I didn't like the lack of cup tourneys. I'm not sure how long I'll be using Barca, probably just until I see how badass my team can become given the ungodly amount of talent on it. But having all of that and a bank account of nearing 300mil isn't that exciting. It is nice having two 30+ goal scorers in Pato and Bojan even when I simmed half the games. I might take a second level spanish team to the top. /I did give up on finding that great of defenders without paying overly much and I just found a great prospect scouting and stuck him at CB with Richards. Rafinha and Bale round out the ends.
Yea, the MLS and Open Cup gets boring after enough years. Especially when your team gets better and the other teams continue to suck. I ended up going to Plymoth Argyle Pilgrims in the Championship after I built up and exported Dallas.
Anyone have any tips on corner kicks? (I play on the 360, but I don't think it should matter except for controls) Sometimes I play it short and try and get a good shooting position. Other times I play it to the back post hoping my guy can get there and be unguarded. Most of the time I just play it in the middle normally, but I hardly get anything out of it, b/c they really suck at heading on target
I play them almost full power to the top of the box and get a head on them. I score quite often (about 20%) on my corner kicks
i like to low drive it using the shot button while putting on topspin. Anywhere from 2/3 to 5/6 power should be pretty good. I also like to have lefties take the right corner kick and righties take the left corner kick
I always have in-swingers and try and keep them low but I still struggle to get goals. I think it has something to do with my strikers though, I played as Italy once and Toni had two off corners in that one game.
Didnt even know there was this forum on this site. I am pretty good, I am a 17 skill level on xbox Live, although I only now usually play be a pro. My gamertag is JamesK10 Ballin if you want to play.
Hey Avs. You have this game for ps3??? What a nice surprise. My handle is Smitro. I'm gonna find your ass!!!
This game is great, except defenders don't fall for moves (Changed in Euro 2008) and the shooting completely sucks, they seriously underrate the pros, and the shooting is wrong, goalies miss easy shots and save the hardest ones ever. Need some imporvement but a solid game.
best way to score on corners is to play it on the ground to the near post, if they have a defender guarding it then play it softly in the air to the near post with no curl and aim your header far post just tap the shoot button though this works for me about 50% of the time
I was great at Fifa 07 for the PS2 - I used to play at pro and world class sometimes. But in Fifa 08 for 360 I suck Donkey balls. I can't get used to it. I blow teams out at amateur and then those same teams either draw with me or beat me at semi pro. I'm not even sure what I'm doing wrong at this point. I did play a lot more with 07... I might play one game every three days now with the XBOX 360
The heading in Fifa 08 is all f*cked up too... I don't score much off of headers. Once in a while I will but most of my goals come up from passing the ball a whole lot and then getting it to my money man up front.
Also, its kid of cheesy but I liked how you could edit a players skill level on FIfa 07 and make them off the hook in a second. Is there any way around the experience points to make an individual player better in 08?
I have FIFA 08 for PS2. I don't play online because my console isn't close to my modem. If I get online will the squad database (with roster changes & transfers) be updated from the default squad? I'm particularly interested in the MLS teams and their players.
wow ... i don't know who else may have been having this problem, but over the past week or so, my FIFA 08 had become unplayable. it would either freeze up during the many startup screens/graphics, or worse yet, if i was finally able to play a game, it would lock up mid-game. frustrating, right? found out all i had to do was clear the HD's cache, and now i'm good to go. whew.
