This past Saturday at the FENAFUTH's last meeting Jose Rafael Ferrari reported that a number of the veteran players almost did not make the trip to the Gold Cup until they were guaranteed that their per diem would be increased from $50 to $100 per day and that they be paid a $1000 bonus per player per every round the team advanced in the tourney.

Ferrari has since said that in the future the federation will state how much they will pay and anybody who doesn't agree to what they are paying will not be called up.

In my opinion the FENAFUTH's stinginess with the purse strings is one of the main reasons why the Honduran National Team was a complete failure during qualifying for Germany 2006. Instead of calling up the best palyers the federation called up a bunch of hacks like Wilmer Velasquez in order to skimp on the cash.

The federation always claims that they have no money to pay the players and constantly whines that the team does not generate enough revenue to meet the players demands.

What do they expect? Nobody wants to pay to see the likes of Wilmer Velasquez, Jairo Martinez, or Francisco Pavon. The fans want to see Costly, Rambo, Pavon, and "Treacherous" Dave(Suazo).

What FENAFUTH's current administration does not seem to understand is that it takes money to make money. If they want people to come out to see the team play they need to do whatever it takes to get the best talent Honduras has to offer on the field. They need to stop skimping on the cash and work to meet the player's modest demands.

This did not seem to be a problem under the previous administration, but always seems to be a major obstacle since Callejas and Ferrari have been in charge of the federation. Mark my words. If the current administration does learn to loosen the purse strings in the slightest bit then our chances for South Africa 2010 have already been sunk before we have played the first qualifier.
