Looks like Benny picked up something during the reserve match, though not too serious: DCFC Also, the gaffer said that Benny started the game despite not having trained the previous three days. That could possibly explain why he didn't light it up immediately.
Sorry, but there is something wrong when a pro can't miss 3 days of training...and then immediately turn it on. I understand Benny being cautious and all (new environment), but missing 3 days of training is not an excuse to play well. That's a big adjustment Benny will have to make (hopefully immediately). The Prem won't care if he's part injured, didn't sleep well- you name it. He's going to have to bring it every time (a la McBride) or he's not going to be effective enough. It was Convey's big lesson- took him a year to learn. I'm hopeful that Benny will take much less time, given he was at Hamburg. He will still have to push himself, though, to fit his control game amongst the headless chicken stuff (definitely an adjustment)..
Seems a bit harsh, afterall not everyone plays well in reserve games fullstop, "He played well for the reserves considering he hadn't trained for three days so all being well he'll be ready." was the actual Davies quote.
