Yeah - I can understand Moises and Victor - they can not play for the senior team this year - but I was surprised at Leyva's inclusion. Glad to see Jose Perez, Jonathon Top and Nic R back as well.

Maybe one of our intrepid reporters can do a story on the 2010-2011 version of the rules?
Can HG (homegrown) players be included on the roster? Only if they are age appropriate? Even if they have played in an MLS game? Only if they have not played more that XXX minutes? Who knows?

US Soccer has a good article on the 2010-2011 season of the Development Academy:

    Here is an excerpt:

The first of three major events in the upcoming season will be the 2010 Winter Showcase and Nike International Friendlies, which will once again be played in Phoenix, Ariz. ...

In a change from previous year’s format, the upcoming season will feature a combined Playoffs and scouting event that will incorporate all 156 teams. The top 32 teams in each age group will compete in the Academy Playoffs in Frisco, Texas, while the remaining 92 teams will attend the event as a preview for next season’s Academy teams. Those teams will participate in exhibition matches, player testing and team training with U.S. Soccer staff. This all-encompassing event will replace the separate Spring Showcase and Playoffs from prior seasons.

The Academy will welcome three new clubs as Real Salt Lake-Arizona, Minnesota Thunder and Shattuck-St. Mary’s will bring the total number of clubs to 78. Real Salt Lake-Arizona, which is led by former Men’s National Team defender Greg Vanney, and Shattuck-St. Mary’s are Residency Programs that will provide an added support system within the Academy’s every day environment.

MATCH REPORT for FCD DA U16 (copied from old thread)

MATCH REPORT for FCD DA U18?

From the FC Dallas Youth Facebook page:
    http://www.facebook.com/reqs.php#!/FCDallasYouth?ref=ts

Development Academy season off to a great start! FCD took on Texans SC at PHP yesterday in their opener. The FCD U18 side defeated TSC 3-0 with goals from Jonathan Top (2) & Bryan Leyva. The FCD U16 team played a phenominal game against a strong side but unfortunately came short of the win with a 0-1 final result. Both... teams show tremendous talent & personality & will certainly have a very bright season ahead!

I am very confused by the pro kids being allowed to play here.

Isn't that consistent with how Academy teams are run around the world? Bottom of the roster guys are allowed to play with the Academy teams in order to get meaningful, competitive minutes, right?

Perhaps, I was always under the impression that academy kids only played academy, and once they had a pro contract they would play in the reserves. But really, my understanding of the ups and downs of this is very, very limited.

There are no "reserves" anymore.....not really. I believe the reserve league is coming back for next year, but right now the only option is Academy play for these guys.

Thank goodness Hyndman is coaching us to our best season anyone can remember. Can you imagine the outcry if they were to sign Emo while Schellas was managing his way through a losing season.

FCD had a table set up and a player signing autographs at the Mexican Bicentenario celebration at the Dallas convention center. I'm pretty sure it was Moises Hernandez, I got a free FCD t-shirt but didn't get a chance to chat with him. FCD was actually one of the title sponsors of the whole event.

...actually, today, at 10:00 am there was a reserve game between Colorado and FCD.

FCD won 2-0 - Leyva scored one of the goals for the FCD Reserve Team.

Meanwhile - from the FCD Youth Soccer Facebook page:

"FCD U16 and U18 Academy teams both defeated Houston Dynamo Academy teams today at Pizza Hut Park (U16 3-0; U18 2-0). Coming off the FCD Reserves defeating Colorado Reserves this morning 2-0 and following FCD Pro team setting the MLS single season unbeaten record with a 19 game streak... It has been one awesome weekend ...for FC Dallas Soccer!
    GO HOOPS!!!!!"

Top & Flavio Guzman goal scorers for the U18's. Guzman grew a couple inches and is absolute clone of Victor Ulloa in appearence and play (before Vic shaved his head). FCD mids outclassed the Dynamo by a wide margin. Jose Perez belongs in the future reserve league. Dynamo academy use to be stout but they are really pedistrian this year. No homegrown players played in this game.

Thanks for the goal scorer update!! (I figured Top would be one of the names - good to hear Guzman is stepping up). I too am surprised by the lack of quality play by Houston Academy this year - they often dominated over the past two years.

None of FCD's four Homegrown players played in the Dev Academy game today. Moises Hernandez is still out with the ankle injury he received down in Austin last week, and the others played (Luna and Leyva scored) in the FCD Senior team reserve match against Colorado. Now that there are some reserve matches, I expect to see fewer appearances with the Dev Academy for the Homegrown players.

Could you explain a little bit more about what you meant about Jose Perez? I couldn't tell if you like and recommend him, or think he won't make it????
