https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_FIFA_World_Cup_finals Look at the winners they are along political lines of ww2. Unless the host team winning in its own country. The exception neutral sites like USA Mexico Sweden chile (sorta) in which case
Im hoping a fresher argie squad can do what the vet squad couldnt in 2014 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
With the way things are going in South America you have to hope a fresh squad could even qualify first. It is going to be a dog fight for every one of the 4.5 slots into the WC.
1930 Uruguay in Uruguay 1934 Italy in Italy 1938 Italy in France (before ww2) 1950 Uruguay in Brazil (Uruguay use to be part of Brazil) 1954 Germany in Switzerland (Swiss main language: German?) 1958 Brazil in Sweden (neutral) 1962 Brazil in Chile (neutral) 1966 England in England 1970 Brazil in Mexico (neutral) 1974 Germany in Germany 1978 Argentina in Argentina 1982 Italy beats Germany in Spain (Spain spared in ww2 by both countries) 1986 Argentina in Mexico (neutral) 1990 Germany beats Argentina in Italy (ww2 allies) 1994 Brazil in USA (neutral) 1998 France in France 2002 Brazil in Japan (neutral) 2006 Italy in Germany (ww2 allies) 2010 Spain vs Netherlands (deboer) South Africa 2014 Germany in Brazil (neutral)
Boateng hand ball... Boateng hurt schweinsteiger handball Seems odd behavior when ur dominating another team
They have two Copas to collect their tears in if they don't qualify. (But there's still a long way to go in this marathon. Such a difficult region to predict.)
I think Chile will have to win a match that they're not "supposed" to win: i.e. away to Argentina, Brasil or Colombia. That would make up for the debacle against Bolivia. But yeah, such a long way to go. If they just win the Pisco derby on Tuesday - and they're at home - they'll likely move within 3 points of a WC spot with still 8 matches to play. So no need to panic. BTW, there could be a 5-way tie for first after Tuesday's games.
After our match against Ecuador, I think it would be safe to agree, that we are no longer contenders nor favourites to win next WC....
Contenders? Yes. Favorites? Definitely not. The real favorites are the same teams that are always favorites. Germany/Spain/Argentina/Brazil. A poor run of form internationally over a small number of matches isn't enough to repudiate their talent. Next tier after that is France/England/Italy/Belgium. The big footballing nations with the deepest talent are always going to have the best chance of winning the World Cup, with an occasional golden generation (i.e. Belgium this time around) having a decent chance of breaking through.
Colombia has a pretty strong team. I think they fall in the 2nd tier contenders for the world crown. Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk
Spain? Favorites? Always? You mean the perennial World Cup chokers that had a once in a generation non-choking phase after they reverted back to choking and dropping out in the group stage? Always favorites? You mean the team that has only twice made it past the 1/4 finals in 18 attempts? And the other time was in 1950, when they finished 4th? Italy - yes. But Spain?
LOL your avatar is still that. get over it bruh. i laughed when i saw ur username then that avatar. get over it bruh for real. france dominated you and deserved to win that match. that call didnt make a significant differences, result wise. and also Iran u17 dominated you guys but somehow you won 4-0. shit happens in football.
Well, we've defeated Spain, Brazil and Argentina, last time we've faced them. In context, we've only had 1 draw and 2 defeats after our second consecutive championship at Copa America, only a few months ago, so as that was only "a poor form internationally over a small number of matches", that definitively must put us right below the real favorites, if not with them at their same level.
i did, but your wording implies that i cried conspiracy or something. it was simply an incompetent ref who missed a clear penalty for us. i dont think there was necessarily anything sinister to it. it happens. but when it happens to a team like Iran playing a team like argentina, its a call that we cant afford to not be given, and it cost us the match. it would be very unlikely for us to lose that match had we been given that penalty. but anyways, it happens. i dont talk about it years later, like the zaza fellow who still has it as his avatar.
Odd choice But I'm going to go with Brazil. Finally finding their feet and playing some good football under Tite. Gabriel Jesus, Rodrigo Caio, and Gabriel Barbosa will be nearing their mid 20's and they have fear factor Neymar. Also they are 2nd on the qualification rankings (as of 10th of October).
