Oak Hill Country Club (East course) Rochester, NY. Have played it five times. Then my college roommate moved to Arizona. Simply awesome, hitting from the fairway was like slicing into warm butter. As a bonus, also went to the '95 Ryder Cup. Again, the best sporting event I've ever attended. Also, hidden gem, Saratoga Spa State Park Public Golf Course. What a great layout. Play it from the blue tees and its a monster. The state of NY has some really good courses. Everyone knows Bethpage, but there are several others. In the NYC/Northern NJ area, try Rockland Lake, though it gets beat to shit (used to take 6 hours to play a round on the weekend when I lived near there).
