I'm glad this is back. I have to say that the season three premiere didn't grip me as much as the season one and two premieres, but it's too early to say anything yet. I thought Mary Elizabeth Winstead was delightful and it'll be fun to see Ewan McGregor switch back and forth between those two types. So far Carrie Coon's character seems like a copy of Alison Tolman's (who herself was obviously heavily influenced by Frances McDormand's character in the original film).
Yeah. There are even clear equivalents to earlier seasons. The two roles Ewan McGregor is playing = Lester Nigaard Carrie Coons = Alison Tolman Mary Elizabeth Winstead = Rachel Keller V.M. Varga = some hybrid of Lorne Malvo and Mike Miller
i lost it when the ac unit landed. i was 95% sure it wouldn't hit, but this is fargo, so i had to leave some room for early violence. the execution of it was great. i'd forgotten that MEW was in this, so that (not to mention her backside, yowsa!) was a pleasant surprise. really glad to have this to look forward to every week again.
How many Boardwalk Empire alumns have we seen so far? I can think of Michael Stuhlbarg and Shea Whigham off the top of my head.Which others am I forgetting about?
SPOILER! I'm still wondering in episode 1 what those footsteps above Carrie Coon were in the house, since I'm pretty sure Maurice was long gone. I've heard some people speculate ghosts, and I wouldn't rule it out after the UFO moment last season. I'm enjoying it overall though, first two episodes have been hilarious
the casting for VM was perfect. when he's on the screen, i recoil in my seat. he makes me very uneasy. on the lighter side, i loved emmit's reaction when he and sy were discussing what could be in the trailer and sy throws out "slave girls" when emmit was just thinking drugs.
http://uproxx.com/sepinwall/fargo-the-law-of-non-contradiction-recap-review/2/ I agree with much of what Sepinwall says in his review. It's also fun to discover Frances Fisher and Francesca Eastwood are mother and daughter. Nice bit of stunt casting.
i love that box with the switch. also, i loved gloria's response to officer hunt's question if he was "getting laid or what." i can't tell if she was being witty or just still being clueless about him. ...and it doesn't really matter if she was asking "what?" or just answering 'what' as part of the either/or. both ways work for her character. and francesca eastwood is not unattractive.
Based on the tone, I think she knew what she was doing. I like how much Frances Fisher and Francesca Eastwood look alike (which isn't uncommon for mother and daughter I guess). In terms of that casting choice, it reminded me of "That's My Boy" an otherwise poor Adam Sandler comedy in which Susan Surandon and her daughter Eva Amurri also play the same character thirty years apart.
I loved the "Peter and the Wolf" intro and how they actually used the theme throughout the episode. I only recognized Billy-Bob Thornton's voice at the very end of the episode.
it's a really close call for me too, but this edges it out. BCS has some humor from time to time, but i find myself laughing out loud to fargo at least once or twice an ep.
Even with the beating happening off-camera, that Nikki Swango scene to end the episode was pretty brutal.
This was actually the best part of it until now... I found Season 3 a bit disappointing and boring, takes too long for action to start, and I actually wasn't dragged into the story. I liked seasons 1 and 2 better.
we're only halfway through season 3, right? i think it's been great so far, and i have no doubt it'll get even better the closer we get to the conclusion.
