    Re: FAQ - FC Dallas

good lord are you people not from Texas?

A longhorn is a breed of cow and can be male or female. like a Brahma, Herferd, Red Angus, Black Angus etc... breeds... a longhorn is a cow breed like a Collie is a dog breed.

a Bull is a male cow, as opposed to a heffer which is a female cow.
a steer is a male cow with it's balls cut off.
by the way a maverick is a lone bull that has been run off by the alpha bull and wonders alone away from the herd.

    Re: FAQ - FC Dallas

My wife and I have had an "heated discussion" about the name Hoops. She says it is only recently that they have been called the hoops. Well I got her to carify. She says the name Hoops started back in 2001 with a kit change. I'm lucky to remember yesterday. So who here can provide the earliest reference to the Hoops as a nick name for the Burn as they were known back then.

    Re: FAQ - FC Dallas

I believe Buzz from 3rd Degree made the first "Hoops" reference in 2004 (?) when the new jerseys were being discussed.

They were never called the "Hoops" while they were the "Dallas Burn." (I don't think so anyway)

    Re: FAQ - FC Dallas

The Dallas Burn were known as "Los Dallas Burns" and the Red and Black, but mainly just the "Burn". Their colors never changed, their styles changed every couple of years but the primary colors always were Red and Black.

First mention of "hoops" was made by Buzz back in 2004 while discussing all of the possible new designs of the kits associated with the rebranding. The kit he referred to as hoops was the one that was chosen.

The rebranding occured between the 2004 and the 2005 season. Out went Islamico, the fire puking horse and in came the longhorn in a red striped (hoops) jersey. The original Islamico was the best mascot ever in MLS. An black andalucian that worked days at the Medieval Times. The second Islamico was not very impressive, a smaller brown horse from the equestrian center in Las Colinas. Needless to say the current mascot doesn't even rank. The cartoon figure in a suit could easily coexist with a live Longhorn. Think of all of the possibilities they would have using a live Longhorn as a mascot. Just the thought of watching it take a big ole' dump on the pitch of Robertson stadium makes me smile.

For everyone not on Chamo's joke about the longhorn, no, it isn't a longhorn - it is a bull. This is something we've been very clear about.

OK....the FCDallas Fact Sheet says the following:

In case no one has ever seen a longhorn lead steer:

    Re: FAQ - FC Dallas

Well. The FCD fact sheet doesn't state if it's a steer (castrated male cattle) or a bull. It just states:

"Old Blue" was a lead steer. Two books on "Old Blue" refer to that animal as a "lead steer."

    From wiki:

The fact sheet doesn't specify if Tex is a steer or bull.

    Re: FAQ - FC Dallas

Nice research, but my bottom line is that if I have a choice, I'm not going to admit that my team's mascot is missing his balls.

It's bad enough that I gotta do it with my alma mater. But as far as I'm concerned, I'm going to take the stance if he gets randy enough one night and doesn't practice safe cattle sex, Tex Hooper has the means to impregnate all the heifers in the pasture.

    Re: FAQ - FC Dallas

    :D:D LOL.

And you know. I have never paid attention whether it was a "steer" or "bull." So. Fan wise. Yeah. It's toros ("toros salvajes" or "toros rayados" as they have described in Galavision or Telefutura). "Scientific" wise....uh...can the FO describe Tex as a bull.

How does that old joke go about the old man and his nagging wife who kept comparing him to a bull? ;)

    Re: FAQ - FC Dallas

NOTE: b) flame is the tie that binds both the history of the team (Burn) and the first supporters group (Inferno) to the current team. (or so they told us way back at the time of the re-branding)
