After watching Timber Joe for Portland earlier this week, it got me thinking that we really want to make sure that we have some sort of iconic cheer, chant, song, whatever for people to relate with Atlanta professional soccer. For instance, although Florida State is famous for doing it as well...but think of the old tomahawk chop (which now isn't P/C but whatever, it was awesome back in the 90s). it was something fans from all over the state, country, and globe could identify with the Atlanta Braves. Thus, i would like us to try and create an idea of what we can collectively do show that we are unique. Some examples i have right now: 1) if we are named the Atlanta Legion. I say we have someone on horseback that rides around the stadium waving a flag that gets the crowd excited. 2) Furthermore, if we are named the Atlanta Legion. we could try to pass out a sword and shield combo and have fans bang on them to make noise. 3) For an idea of song, we could all sing Ray Charles "Georgia on my mind" or some other song that relates directly to Atlanta.
I think we should avoid name specific ideas since we have no idea what they will be. More generic songs/chats can work now at Silverbacks games and more easily transfer over to a MLS team. I really like the "Georgia on My Mind" idea. The song became the state song in 1979. So in the 79th min. of each game we can sing the opening veruse a time or too. Georgia, Georgia, The whole day through Just an old sweet song Keeps Georgia on my mind I am also a big fan of the ole "YOOOOOOOOOU SUCK!" when the visiting teams goalkeeper is doing a goal or free kick.
Random guy just lurking but I'm with you Eleven. You say you want something like the Timber's [or the Timber's Army] then don't yell "You Suck" or "You Suck A--hole". The Timber's Army looks down on it because it's cussing for cussing's sake. It's annoying and immature!
The one guy in the General Admission section at the Atlanta Beat vs. Boston Breakers game two weeks ago that told the ref "YOU'RE FIRED A**HOLE!!!" was really a fan with the suburbanites and their 10-year-olds I just want our chant to involve peaches, trees, streets, and hooligans. Or we could just fight visiting fans and set off flares? Anyone? Bueller?
A-T-L A-T-L Spread the word Spread the word A-T-L The BOSS are coming The BOSS are coming The BOSS are coming so beware
i like this, but change BOSS from an "are" to an "is" A-T-L Spread the word Spread the word A-T-L The BOSS is coming The BOSS is coming The BOSS is coming so beware
Dig it...... Tune A-T-L, A-T-L, Send the word, send the word A-T-L! That the (South/nickname/or other) are coming, The (South/nickname/or other) are coming, The drums rum-tumming Ev'rywhere. So prepare, say a pray'r, Send the word, send the word to beware. We'll be over, we're coming over, And we won't come back till it's over A-T-L!
Another great tune for crowds is to the Battle Hymn of the US Republic. Just changed up a bit (maybe after a goal is scored): [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFtNVEbasOo&annotation_id=annotation_480212&feature=iv"]Tune[/ame] Glory, glory, AT-Lan-Ta! Glory, glory, AT-Lan-Ta! Glory, glory, AT-Lan-Ta! The (nickname) are marching on. (Insert a four lines about the team here) Glory, glory, AT-Lan-TA! Glory, glory, AT-Lan-TA! Glory, glory, AT-Lan-TA! The (nickname) are marching on. Then break into some sort of chaotic pandemonium.
Can not go wrong with the fight song for UGA!!! After all the Glories, we just say "And the Hell with (Insert team we are playing)." And right now in both we can put in for the nickname SILVERBACKS since they are the team with have for the time being.
the battle hymn of the republic tune with a southern team???? not just no, but hell no! that's almost as bad as playing "marching through georgia"
University of Georgia uses this tune. Are they not a southern university or did I miss something? I guess we could modify "Dixie" if that is more suitable......
Are we really going to have this argument again. Nothing pre-1965 can be used in any way by anything in reference to the history of this city. The soccer fan base in Atlanta is not big enough to give people a reason not show up. As a UGA fan I loved singing Glory on Saturday afternoons in Sanford Stadium student section, which was more then a monochromatic group of people, but some people do not have the same fond memories and in fact have just the opposite feeling so lets drop it.
