Did you ever see a photo of the 1950 World Cup USMNT? They look about the same as the teams did in the 30's and 40's. I think WW2 halted everything in terms of development of the sport not only in the United States but world wide. Looking at old photos from the early years of the old NASL, some of them actually look like they were from the 20's and 30's.
