As a kid I loved Jerry Lewis. Him by himself and with Dean were much funnier in person then they ever were in their movies. When a movie first opened up here in NYC they would perform for 15 minutes at each local Theather before the start of their movie. It was one of my best memories I had as a child. I did not have many happy ones but that was a good one. When I got older I would always make a donation to the MDA when they had it only here in NYC. Later I always did it. I went to see the opening perform as of a Chorus line on Broadway. I am sitting with my wife. After the light went down Mr.Lewis and his first wife sit next to us on the aisle to see the show. They left just before the lights went on before intermission. Then again after intermission and they stayed to applaud at the finale. That is when I mentioned to him how much I enjoyed those little openings before the movie starts. He liked that it was a great memory for me.
There was a musical version of The Nutty Professor which premiered in Nashville back in 2012 and was well-received. Unfortunately, the death of composer Marvin Hamlish in August of that year stopped the show in its tracks and an anticipated journey to Broadway never happened. What a shame. Rupert Holmes (Books & Lyrics), Jerry Lewis (Director) and Marvin Hamlisch (Music).
