With all the lower division teams out there, it seems like Boyd Okwuonu and Phanny Kavita could have signed somewhere if they wanted to. Anyone know if they've called it careers?
During the LA-Orlando game, both Will Johnson and Luis Gil were on the pitch at the same time (Gil came on as a sub at 70 minutes or so). Will got the first goal for Orlando with a nice volley off his chest (Goal of the Week material). http://matchcenter.mlssoccer.com/ma...ndo-city-sc-vs-la-galaxy/details/video/100490 As for Gil, he had a few touches and a header that was saved in the box. The announcers were saying that Gil was supposed to start, but due to his fitness, another player started and Kreis brought Gil to Orlando because he knows how to play the diamond.
Regarding the announcers, I'm not sure that having played in the diamond is the same as knowing how to play in the diamond. I'll be pissed if Gil catches fire and plays great for Orlando.
Happened to turn on the LA v. Orlando game in about the 75th minute. Orlando was up 1-0. The first thing I heard the announcer say was, "LA has seen much more of the possession and has looked more offensive - minded since the Gil substitution for Orlando." LA scored within the next 5 minutes.
This We have and still employ many dirty players. Salcedo is a hell of a talent when he isn't making dumb tackles.
The BigSoccer Mexicans Abroad forum is reporting that Carlos Salcedo is moving from Fiorentina to Eintracht Frankfurt. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/carlos-salcedo-eintracht-frankfurt.2058417/
His Instagram had pictures of him signing with them today. That kid's career is off to an incredibly hot start. Not to mention living in some pretty amazing places. To clarify, the Fiorentina deal was a loan and this deal is also a loan. He is still under contract with Chivas "We've been watching Carlos for a long time," admitted Frankfurt sporting director Fredi Bobic. "With him we are bringing in a central defender who doesn't shy away from 50-50 challenges. He has real Mexican fighting spirit." Watch out Pulisic Last edit: say what you will about the kid, he is (by far, IMO) the best talent to come out of the academy right now. He isn't just going to these other clubs and riding pine or getting moved to their youth sides. He's in the first team consistently. Quite the accomplishment for him.
I'd take Salcedo back in a heartbeat. Shame we couldn't keep him, because I feel a Salcedo/Glad partnership would've been better than Borchers/Olave after a few years.
This is a pretty interesting column about the role of club soccer in determining whether someone makes the US Soccer Hall of Fame or not; Jeff Cunningham and Jason Kreis feature prominently, and our club is mentioned. Article from Brian Strauss at SI.com is here.
I'm realizing a trend in our GK pool. Nicky is an outlier. The rest have had the common strengths of being good shot stoppers but awful at actual saves and distribution. Those saying we're fine if Nick leaves next year, IMO, don't fully appreciate how much of an outlier he is in our GK history.
I think most fans don't understand how much of an outlier Nicky is in MLS GK history. The majority of keepers in MLS are good shot stoppers, but are deficient in the saves and distribution categories.
And that we lucked out in even getting him in the first place. Crazy to think that the only reason we brought him back was because Garlick bailed at the last second.
