With the high manager turnover lately, I expect there'll be a number of good players available who don't work into their new manager's plans.

Can we change the topic title just so it makes sense please? There's no such thing as the off season :p. I guess I must be weird if that sort of thing bugs me :p.

And we have £25m to spend in this summer alone?! Wow. I guess Manny might be on the cards afterall....

I've got my fingers crossed Moyes can find a way to get David Nugent from Preston North End. He's a tremendous talent and has been vocal about his desire to play for the Toffees. Problem is, there is a rumored 10million pound demand for his services.

Also read that Moyes may be readying a 4million pound bid for Phil Jagielka

It's money wasted if we spend 10 million pounds on a striker. We'll need someone to back up JV and AJ though, hopefully (as always) on the cheap though.
Jagielka would be a solid pick-up. Tired of hearing us linked to jokers like Bardsley though.

I reckon we are only 2-3 players short from being a genuine top side! Still seem to lack a bit of Midfield class however having Cahill back in supporting Arteta and possibly Fernandes in there permanently if we can sign him will help! Also still seem to lack a bit of punch up forward and I think AJ needs a bit more support up there!

In regards to Kewell! If you want someone to spend three quarters of the season on the side lines, he is definately the right signing for us!

According the Everton FC they were just rumors that the chief of Wednesday Brian Laws refuted.

    In other news;

"Phil Jagielka will this week tell new Sheffield United manager Bryan Robson he wants to join Everton.

Newcastle, Bolton, Wigan and Aston Villa are also keen on signing him, but Jagielka's favoured destination is Goodison Park."

everton are also showing interest in portsmouth forward Matt Taylor, do u reckon he would be useful or a waste of 5 million pounds. would it be worth spending this money, considering players such as the young vaughn, yet it would be good to have someone else just for depth. other clubs are looking at taylor as well, liverpool and villa, but if liverpool are gonna spend big then i dont reckon taylor will go there,,, would we want him

Taylor is a left back/left midfielder.

Slightly more info on the same topic (from football365):

JAGIELKA TO RETURN TO EVERTON AS AN OLD MAN
Another player edging ever closer to a move is Phil Jagielka.

The Sheffield United midfielder/defender has reportedly told the Blades that he wants to leave so that he can prolong his stay in the Premiership. 'The Manchester-born 24-year-old has a £4m release clause in his contract which Everton will now trigger as David Moyes begins planning for a Uefa Cup campaign,' reports The Guardian.

'Moyes is confident of deflecting tentative interest from Newcastle and Aston Villa to secure the player's services, with the defensive recruit, who can also play in midfield, the prelude to a busy summer in the market.'

Jagielka, incidentally, was once on the books of Everton as a schoolboy. Hence the headline.

That's brilliant news. He'd be a very good signing, and nice and early in the preseason again. And for £4m?! Brilliant.

No news is good news, at least where Moyes is concerned.

It's way early. I'm not worried.

Yeah exactly! Not many signings happen early on, it's within the last week you should be worried we haven't made any bids.

Several mentions of Everton in the BBC's gossip page (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/gossip_and_transfers/6725367.stm):

Manchester United striker Alan Smith will not be offered a new contract, which is set to spark a bidding battle between Tottenham, Everton, Middlesbrough and Aston Villa. (The Sun)

Everton are prepared to cash in on striker Andrew Johnson - but only if West Ham pay £20m. (Various)

AS Roma, Everton and Newcastle are reputedly tracking Boudewijn Zenden, who has been released by Liverpool. (The Times)
