Samuel Armenteros for Portland seems like a hell of a player. He has three goals in two games at forward; he's Swedish-Cuban and on loan from lower-tier Serie A team Benevento (so lower tier, they lost their first fourteen matches in a row after being promoted). Good record of scoring in the Netherlands. And he's making $600k. Watching the way he moves on the field and opens/fills space, I can't help but wonder how we'd fare with someone like him in the lineup.
I'm not sure why, but this club hasn't really focused much on the Italian league(s) when looking for talent. I think that is a huge mistake. There is talent to be had there (look at Montreal) and it doesn't break the bank (see above player). Especially with the financial issues that many clubs in that area face (my own, in particular) you won't be competing with larger clubs like you would in say Holland.
Taking Adi's spot would be a task for a striker, and he has done it. Putting away some really nice finishes too.
Vanvouver’s 17 year old Alphonso Davies has the highest completed dribbles/90 in MLS history right now. He ripped up OCFC. Besiktas are apparently very seriously interested in acquiring him.
This is completely awesome from the Portland Timbers: We have never, ever tweeted a picture of one of our advertisements. However. Our special thanks go out to @TimbersFC for placing this absolute beauty today. #OnePortland #RCTID pic.twitter.com/aXqm6ySI4s— Portland Press Herald (@PressHerald) June 30, 2018
They held a viewing party in Portland, Maine, and advertised it in the Portland ME paper. "Support Portland supporting Portland" - Maine to Oregon - is a clever idea.
Speaking of Maine, I got to try my first full head-to-tail boiled lobster this week. Really should have googled how to extract the meat prior to sitting down in the restaurant. I was not expecting green liquid to come gushing out of the thing and pool all over my plate and I felt like the complete amateur that I was trying to get to the edible bits. I have no proof, but I had the distinct feeling that everyone else in the place was enjoying my discomfiture greatly.
Interesting news of Jesse Marsch in talks to leave the team for a role at sister club RB Leipzig, you know the German Bundesliga club, but the Austrian one. it is for an interim head coach at Leipzig or serve as an assistant under Rangnick Red Bull organization sporting director. Bizare that there is no indication he has something guarantee to fall back on if his trial doesn't work out. There is a permanent coach, but he will not start until the following season so someone needs to fill in for the upcoming season. First off this could be a huge opportunity for Marsch, to prove himself for a season, meet mild, or overperform expectations. He would then get a job with another pig 4 league club. The interim job probably has a nice salary. No indication of this, but I wonder if RB is asking him to take the interim, or assistant, as a trial for a promotion somewhere else, and if does not work out he can comeback and take back NY job. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2018...rsch-confirmed-be-discussions-join-rb-leipzig
