‘04 CDM Brandan Craig is with Liverpool for the next two weeks. Craig is a member of Philadelphia Union Academy and one of the top 2004s in the pool #usynt pic.twitter.com/YnzK0eSsFs— Joey (@USAprospects) July 18, 2019
No mention of a second passport/citizenship on his DA page, which is not to say that he doesn't have one. http://phil.ussoccerda.com/sam/teams/index.php?team=1655816&player=79744161 As an old guy, I can confirm that high school graduation dates in the 2020s make me want to just sit under a tree and decompose.
I'm aware he's probably not signing tomorrow with Liverpool but I'm so tired of players signing in England. They're essentially non-prospects until they leave 5 years later. I'd 100% prefer to sign with the Union than any English team.
With Brexit coming, you may soon get your wish. The only dual nationals signing in the UK will have UK passports -- who won't be able to sign at 16 anymore because they aren't part of the EU.
https://northeasttimes.com/2019/08/06/craig-shines-during-liverpoo-trip/ [His father] Andrew, a Father Judge High School graduate who went on to play soccer at Temple University, was born in England. Because of that, his son has a dual citizenship and has a British passport. The father-son duo spent two extra days in Great Britain to visit family, and that made the business trip even better.
Europe is still the dream: Brandan Craig: “Yeah, obviously that’s my main goal. To play Champions League football, Premier League, or any Top 5 league.”This generation gets “it”. https://t.co/5x5MSFU72s— project mbappe (@starboysfc) May 29, 2023
Well, past generations wanted that also. Problem was the knowledge (especially institutional knowledge) ,infrastructure and coaching wasn‘t there, so he is benefiting from the hard work others did before him. Good for him and I hope he appreciates that, Yeah, this generation does generally have an understanding that is way beyond what we have seen before. Again, without the suffering of those before them that opp wouldn‘t be there. Take ad of it son. Your passing is truly top class.
Amobi Okugo told me after he got drafted that he wanted to play in the UEFA Champions League. I am not sure it was about the previous generations not "getting it." Brandan should have those goals. But he really needs to keep his focus on getting on the field for the Philadelphia Union. I am more interested in hearing him talk about how that becomes a reality than to gloss over the next 5 links in the chain and talk about how he's going to start for Liverpool.
I thought that's what went awry for Okugo. After a hot start to his MLS career, when a move didn't materialize as quickly as he liked, he lost motivation. Clark was probably a more extreme version of this. After his torrid start, he had his eyes on Leipzig and playing in the senior WC. Then he struggled for New York & couldn't even make junior int'ls. Hopefully he can recover, unlike Okugo. He's now at least knocking on the door of a place he wanted to be.
