I'm hearing that Eintracht Frankfurt and a few other European teams will be making offers for Aaron Long.

Off the top of my head, with Bosz coming in, he would fit at Bayern pretty well, as atheticism and range is at a premium with the extreme high line served as a the foundation of Bosz’ system.
.@BrianDunseth with the scoop that a Premier League team has an offer for Red Bulls centerback Aaron Long #RBNY— Arman Kafai (@ArmanKafai) July 15, 2019
I have no idea how much stock to put in the rumor, but that would a crazy rise for him if true. Playing in the USL as an unheralded 23-year-old in 2016, moving up to RBNY in MLS in 2017, and then the EPL in 2019.
He won't qualify for a work permit under either the automatic standard or the objective criteria of the Exceptions Panel, so don't get too excited. https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/english-scottish-work-permit-requirements.2092246/
If he had played against Panama in the group stage finale, he would automatically qualify. Right now, an American player needs appearances in 60% of competitive US matches in the past 24 months. Assuming the US doesn't fall out of the top 30 (and we're 30th right now), and that the application for a work permit is filed on July 27 (when the 2017 Gold Cup matches are no longer considered), the player would need 6 competitive US appearances between the 2019 Gold Cup and the last 4 2018 World Cup qualifiers. Long has 5. If he plays in the Nations League matches this fall, he'll be eligible in the winter window. He might get bought by an English team this summer, but he's not moving there until 2020.
I’m gonna cross my fingers and hope he doesn’t move from RBNY ever (or at least until we win an MLS Cup, which is probably never).
Apparently the offer was from Southampton (although there’s no source given). 1150563024719273984 is not a valid tweet id
The most interesting thing (for me at least) is that he was an attacker basically his entire life, right up to like his fourth pro season, when he finally started getting regular games for Seattle 2. It would've been easy for people, himself included, to have said "to heck with this" somewhere along the way. I've long held a non-scientific theory (more a hunch, I suppose) that a different developmental system would be identifying guys that would be better as defenders earlier. With that said, I doubt this is a U.S.-only issue -- if you think a guy has a chance of making it as an attacker, you probably take it.
For all intents and purposes, he's qualified for when the transfer would be applicable, because you gotta figure NJ would want him to finish out the season anyway given they are in the playoffs and he's a key player. If Southampton applied for the WP after that, the only competitions that would factor in are 6 Gold Cup matches and 2 in Nations' League. He's already played in 5 of those. That's 60% right there. If he played in both Nations' League matches it'd be 88%. If he were on the borderline, a premier league club is probably winning an appeal for him. Which he is right now, so if they wanted to press it for a summer transfer, they could. He's played in 83% of the recent competitive matches. The ones bringing down the average are almost all nearly 2 years ago. That's a compelling case. *stamp* WP APPROVED
Time for me to fire up the twitter and guess. A 1 in 19 chance? Consider me more reliable than 95% of British journalists.
Okay, I'll play. If MM goes to Reading again, it would be an already made match. I don't know their CB situation other than MM. I would like to see it. And I'm a RBNY fan.
