Official: Milan excluded from the Europa League, Roma to the group stage https://t.co/zaM67fQrrC— RomaPress (@ASRomaPress) June 28, 2019
Lets try to win this cup. Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United won this cup last 3 years. Its not as important as Scudetto or CL.But knowing we wont win those two anytime, this is good trophy to have. Sevilla, Arsenal, and United are threats. And those who might come from CL.
yea, getting tossed from EL is so terrible. ACM has been asking to get banned from the EL. Money and finances aside if the harshest punishment is after obliterating FFP in the summer, never submitting you plan to UEFA then obliterating FFP again in Jan is getting bounced from the EL... then I still say there is no point in adhering to it. Sorry, missing out on EL is not a sufficient deterrent if I'm running the club.
Thats my whole point! Nobody cares about EL and Milan cucked us once again. They got the punishment they wanted exactly! FFP is real for everyone outside the big boys. We wouldn’t get to “negotiate” anything.
I disagree with the last part. The court ruling pretty much made it a non-factor for everyone. The difference is ACM had the balls to challenge it and Pallotta and our other worthless directors don't.
Nonsense, yet again. Milan still have to comply with FFP. There is no way to get around that. They eventually have to put their books in balance. What the terms of their Settlement Agreement are, we do not know - but we know that they cannot spend like they did the last two seasons. And if they fail to balance, they will face even further sanctions. The amount of people who think it would be fine to deliberately violate FFP is astounding. Roma never got kicked out of Europe.
I'll make you a gentleman's wager. I bet that ACM spend more this summer in transfers than they make in sales. If there is even an ounce of truth to what you say they will certainly be selling more than buying. By the way, not playing in the EL was what ACM has been proposing all along.. they don't care about it, nobody really does. Also, there is a big difference to missing FFP by 30 or 40 mil and what ACM did. I'm not suggesting we do what they did but its idiotic to sell players at less than value to try an comply with FFP given UEFA really can't enforce it.
Missing out on EL may not be a big deal for ACM, who have won 2nd most UCL and expect major trophies historically. But old this not be a big deal for them if they were kicked out of UCL? Or would this not be a big deal for someone like Samp or Torino whose aims are for a European spot? This is like $250,000 fine. For a billionaire like Milan maybe it’s not a big deal but for someone with only a few millions it is huge.
Everyone keeps saying EL isn't that important but I don't believe it. There are more games, TV , sponsors, tickets to be sold and money to be made in the tournament. Granted its not CL money but there is more revenue in it as opposed to not playing in it at all.
Well one time we win the MLS all star game trophy and since then some people, have felt we are too good for competitions like the EL. It’s beneath our prestige or something.
The Old UEFA Cup was very important and the EL took its spot. The Cup Winners Cup was a waste but I think there is money to be made in the EL. I’m not really talking about prizes but tv and sponsors end up paying out s lot. I’m sure Chelsea made something by winning it.
Indeed, plus you get valuable coefficient points to enable you to be seeded in higher pots for subsequent draws.
We went through this in another thread and I think (but my numbers could be wrong) is that you could win 30-35 mil for going all the way to the championship. While that's not chump change, that's less than you get for just making the group stage of the CL.
Sure but that doesn’t include other revenue that comes with the tournament. There is little money in the Coppa Italia and all there is left is the league. Even England has two other competitions, the League and FA Cup that no one really pays much attention to until the final stages. The EL at least gives players and teams more exposure across Europe. The money making potential you have in TV, sponsors, merchandise , ticket sales and revenue in the Europa League is something you wouldn't have available by not playing it at all. I just don't think it should be downplayed as much as it is. Again its not the Champions League but it is definitely an important tournament.
oh yea, I think the CI is absolutely worthless. If I were running the club I'd tank that competition every year just to eliminate the games. edit: Also, don't get me wrong for Roma I think the EL is the only worthwhile trophy they have any hope of ever winning.
The Coppa Italia should be played as a preseason competition with maybe the final 8 played in April/May.
That's actually not a bad idea. A few fairly competitive preseason games to help get ready for the season and you aren't adding more games to your regular season.
