Lazio demolished AC Milan this weekend with 4-1. Fraser was impressed. So, if Matt plays, it will be a Dutch-US defenders battle, with Matt obviously with the biggest challenge with Ciro Immobile being trigger happy. He netted a hattrick. Compared to that, Stefan de Vrij has a relatively lighter task at hand. But the bigger the challenge the greater the shine!!
Saw an unofficial twitter that Kruiswijk still out (injury) and Sereno also no go, so looking at: Opstelling #Vitesse. Pasveer, Dabo, Kashia, Miazga, Buttner, Bruns, VD Werff, Foor, Rashica, Matavz, Linssen dunno how realisitic that is. Seems like maybe a 5-3-2 with Kashia/Miazg/vdWerff maybe. Not sure. Fraser is hedging, saying "maybe" Vitesse will give 120% and Lazio have an off day. Certainly without Sereno the job won't be any easier. Good test for MM.
Yup, Fraser decided to make the line up public, as he thought Lazio wouldnot loose a night's sleep about the question what line up Vitesse will come up with. So it's Euro debut time for Matt!
I'm anticipating a rough day at the office for MM. Trading Sereno for vdW may give him some defensive protection, but they are going to be under pressure quite a bit today. Hope they surprise. Lazio hasn't lost in a while.
They're a little bit scary, but it could be their coach chooses to rest 1 or 2 key players. I heared he might rest de Vrij and Ciro Immobile. That would take a lot of pressure off. Rather funny name for a striker, for sure
Yeah, word is that they are going to play some 2nd teamers ahead of Roma this weekend. So home, a little extra defensive bite in the middle from van der Werff... Maybe Vitesse/Linssen can hit on the counter.
Seeing line-ups now without MM. So not sure what's going on. Not sure he's starting at this point. (EDT: The dutch sites have him in the line-up, so I'll go back to him starting. Twitter is deluged with stuff for this game UEFA must be big for the bookies, they're tweeting like crazy.)
Line up teams on Dutch television: VITESSE: Pasveer,Dabo,Kasjia,Miazga, Büttner,Bruns,v.d.Werff,Foor,Rashica, Matavz,Linssen LAZIO: Strakosha,Bastos,De Vrij, Luiz Felipe,Marusic,Murgia,Di Gennaro, Parolo,J.Lukaku,Luis Alberto,Caicedo
Looking at Atalanta - Everton, with far over the top Everton favourites with the bookies, the Dutch defenders from FC Groningen and Heracles locked down the EPL strikers.
Would be something, to score on yor Eurodebut. That would be the icing on a tasty cake, or is it the cherry?
Miazga has looked a real threat on set pieces this game. Hopefully he keeps developing this part of his game. A CD who can get you a few goals a season is a nice weapon.
Two players make back post run, curling ball from wide behind the D and Matavz puts away a "side foot sitter..." Well hit, though.
Vitesse up 1-0 in the '33 thanks to their #9 Matavz. Lovely cross from the right wing bouncing with pace across the front of goal and Matavz meets the ball at the back post to make it 1-0.
Vitesse should block the Lazio attacks sooner in the mid field, in times it puts too much pressure on the defense.
