Group D: Switzerland*, Denmark*, Republic of Ireland, Georgia*, Gibraltar

    How to advance:
    1. Top two group finishers qualify for Europe
    2. Group winners from the Nations League guaranteed themselves at least a playoff spot.
    3. Groups without such nations (Switzerland, Denmark, Georgia in this group) or in which the group winners advance via the top two places send the third place team.

The Swiss should qualify out of this group.

Looks like Basel is getting Denmark. Geneva gets Ireland. I would bet Thun gets Gibralter and maybe St Gallen or Luzern get Georgia.

Hi RTA. Seems it's just you and me now! Whatever happened to SwissGCZ?

Nice to see Swz have been drawn with ROI. I think the last time 'we' played them 'Chappy' was striker - but Frei und Streller might have played against them.

At least I'm guaranteed radio commentary on RTE Long Wave 252Khz.

I've just placed a 50-1 bet on Swz winning the competition.

    Bye for now :)

It is obvious to say, but 6 points would be ideal. A draw in Ireland would not be devastating, but anything but 3 points in Gibraltar would be a disaster.

4-0 over Gibraltar. What is even better is that Denmark was held by Georgia 0-0.

    Ireland 11 pts 5 matches
    Denmark 9 pts 5 matches
    Switzerland 8 pts 4 matches
    Georgia 4 pts 5 matches
    Gibraltar 0 pts 5 matches

Switzerland risks to not qualify with this group despite i think it' s the team with most quality there.
The problem is that after the world cup some key players, like Behrami, Dzemaili, Lichtsteiner, were ruled out of the squad; and the new generation, like Zakaria, Mbabu, E.Fernandes, doesn't have the same level.
The recall of Lichtsteiner was important for the win over Ireland, but personally i would have given a chance to Silvan Widmer instead.
There are some young players who could still bring quality to the squad:
Nedim Bajrami and Jérémy Guillemenot are some exemples.

Not sure if Bajrami or Guillemenot are ready. I do agree that the Swiss are the most talented team in the group. The Denmark matches were both very disappointing to watch.

    Pot 1
    Belgium
    Italy (hosts, Group A)
    England (hosts, Group D)
    Germany (hosts, Group F)
    Spain (hosts, Group E)
    Ukraine

    Pot 2
    France
    Poland
    Switzerland
    Croatia
    Netherlands (hosts, Group C)
    Russia (hosts, Group B)

    Pot 3
    Portugal
    Turkey
    Denmark (hosts, Group B)
    Austria
    Sweden
    Czech Republic

    Pot 4
    Wales
    Finland
Winner play-off Path A (Iceland, Belarus or Hungary would be placed in Group F, Romania would be placed in Group C)
Winner play-off Path B (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovakia, the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland would be placed in Group E)
Winner play-off Path C (Scotland, Norway, Serbia or Israel will be placed in Group D)
Winner play-off Path D (Georgia, North Macedonia, Kosovo or Belarus will be placed in Group C unless Romania win Path A, then the Path D winner will be placed in Group F)

So my ideal Group for the Swiss
    Belgium or Ukraine
    Switzerland
    Denmark, Austria or Sweden
No Serbia, Kosovo or Bosnia and Herzegovina

    Worst possible group
    England
    Switzerland
    Portugal
    Serbia or Kosovo

Long time NT coach Köbi Kuhn has died. I did not agree with all of his decisions, but a good manager and person.

What did the Swiss FA decide wrt attending a March training camp in Qatar? Reportedly the decision would be taken at a meeting last Friday (because of tensions in the region the decision was pushed back to that date).

It very much sounds like Belgium will go to Qatar and join up with Croatia and Portugal. Two friendlies will be played but the opponents haven't been revealed. Belgium to play Croatia and Portugal? The Swiss, in case they're going, to do likewise?

Looks like the Swiss will indeed be in Qatar. On 30 March Switzerland - Belgium.

Part of me says good, but he Swiss usually pay terrible in friendlies. See the loss to Qatar prior to the win over Belgium.

Sad draw vs Wales. So many chances to put that one away.
