European Union Wins Nobel Peace Prize: Praise And Shock For Committee's Decision

The Nobel Prize Committee announced on Friday that the European Union has won the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize for "six decades of contributions to the advancement of peace and reconciliation, democracy and human rights in Europe."
"The stabilizing part played by the European Union has helped to transform a once-torn Europe from a continent of war to a continent of peace," Nobel committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland said, according to the Associated Press.

The only good thing about this is that I'll get to see loads of little Englanders get their knickers in a twist. Otherwise it's a farce.

This feels like Secretariat being named Sportsman of the Year.

But I don't think FIFA was named Footballer of the Year, was it?

Time's Man of the Year once was The Computer.

Apples and oranges. "Person of the Year" is about the biggest newsmaker, not an achievement per se. PotY was also once "You", representing the proliferation of social media, a major event that year.

The Nobel Peace Prize is supposed to be for an achievement in advancing peace.

    Jealous?

How are 60 years of enduring freedom on a continent whose various people kept on busting each other's heads for centuries not an achievement? Maybe they should have awarded the price rather to a person than the institution itself. Delors or Kohl are still alive.

    Now everybody:

All together now, all together, all together now.....!

It's not such a bad decision when you consider that the other nominees were Iran and North Korea.
