I'm still curious why the club kept him and the Belgian guy in the squad rather than encouraging both to take a loan. What a strange goalkeeping season it's been for them. Horvath still has more games as no.1 than all the others.
Likely cause they just bought him and still have high hopes for him/expect him to take the role back himself. Hope he earns it back in time for the start of next year.
No doubt and he's at a good club as well. He will get a chance to take his starting role back and once he does and if he does well we will get a chance at a better league.
He was bought to be the starter, for more money than any of the other keepers in Brugge. He did badly enough to earn the bench, and eventually the reserves. This is the goal that got him benched. Look at the positioning and reaction: Sadly, it wasn't the first, and not the worst, moment for him. But it was the straw that broke the camel's back. Every single time I've watched him on goal, he's been sub-par.
I do admit that was a travesty and he was quite ineffecient in many matches early on. I had hoped it was just nerves and he was still figuring himself out. He did actually far better in his debut during the playoffs then he did after a full pre-season with the club. I don't think he's out of his element. He can hack it at this level. He might need more time though.
The problem that I've seen is that he can make mistakes that then feed on themselves. That's not a great thing for GKs. At Molde, where I watched him regularly, he could have a circus performance one week (his performance against Ajax I think was of a superior class, just ridiculous saves), but then if he misjudged a cross or let a soft goal or something, you could tell that he was second-guessing everything. He has great natural shot-stopping ability, but seems to be quite timid and doesn't have very good positioning. But more importantly I'm not sure he's a GK that defenders trust. So there's a lot to work on. I think he might have benefited from another year or two in Norway to work on his confidence and his command of the area.
He's the Rubio Rubin of keepers: if things go well, he does well. The moment things stop going swimmingly, he becomes a "manojo de nervios" (= a nervous wreck).
I really hoped he was the US keeper of the future but after the howler..............I do not know any more.
he hasn't played in 6 months. Even Friedel is ahead of him. But he'll prove himself again. He may not be no.1, but he surely can compete for no.3 and that's not half bad IMO.
