Well if you wanted tickets for cheaper prices you're screwed. Tickets went on sale yesterday and already the only ones available are $175+.
Here is a link to an article in today's online La Primera Hora. www.primerahora.com/reversazoalasuperficiedelloubriel-629607.html Reversal pretty much covers it. We will see natural grass in JRL when it reopens. I am all for that. My only complaint is that they didn't start the work until February and now it will be July before the Islanders can return to their home field. This means they will have to host the second round of the Caribbean Cup in another location. (I assume Bayamon Soccer Complex) And may not be able to host the semi-finals and finals, should they advance. I don't know what the specifications are for hosting a Cup semi-final, consolation and championship game series. As two time defending champs, PRI deserves the chance to host the final series of games. IMHO In the end, this will be great. But, like all construction, it's the journey to completion that has its hard bumps and turns.
THis is going to be horrible for our attendance number that complex barley fits a thousand people. The NASL and the Islanders should hold the municipality accountable for the loss in revenue as well.
I read somewhere that the Bayamón Soccer Complex had extra seats put in for games previously to boost there total up to 2000. Hopefully the Islanders will do this to help their situation this season.
The NASL attendance thread seems to suggest they can get temp seating to up the capacity to 3,000. Though the real question is, how are they going to get all those people there without any parking?
English "The head of the Department of Recreation and Sports of the Municipality of Bayamon, Hiram Padilla, announced the installation of temporary bleachers in the Bayamón Soccer Complex that will increase capacity to 3,000. Similarly, it will provide "trolleys" from Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium to the Bayamón Soccer Complex."
Thanks to Hura of hiapr.org for the pics The restrooms and the locker rooms are being gutted and remodeled
It looks like the field is going to be lower that it was before, before it use to be at level with the first row of seat. now is going to be around 3 to 4 feet below it, from the looks of it.
Also it looks like the field work could be done by the end of this month. I don't know about the rest of the renovations.
Its looking good, maybe the Islanders can get into it a bit sooner that they thought. In such a big stadium they should try to concentrate the fans closer together than before though, they were all spread out last year it seemed.
Aren't they precluded from playing there until after the national team plays Spain on August 15, regardless of whether the stadium's complete before then or not?
From what is know about it, no. They also may play a friendly there in July against Valencia so we can expect that by July the Islanders should be back there.
BTW the hole in that you can see the edge of in the bottom right of the last pictures is where they are pouring the foundation for the new score board.
The Islanders where founded in 2003 and it was around a year since the last baseball team played there so in 2001-2002. Bayamon was never a baseball town their mostly basketball.
I'll have to ask for more pics but from what i know they started working on the bathrooms, the field is almost completely done, and they are also working on the concession stands.
