ESPN is reporting the Caleb Porter is out.... http://www.espnfc.us/major-league-s...imbers-coach-after-first-place-finish-reports
Another Report with more detail: https://www.fourfourtwo.com/us/feat...urce=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_m_medium=t
This sounds really strange. Maybe Caleb Porter burned himself out or has some critical illness in the family?
Re: reports of a "power struggle" between Porter and front office, I'm hearing it's a little of that, but different feelings about the past season and future direction were the driving force behind Porter's decision to leave. #RCTID— Caitlin Murray (@caitlinmurr) November 17, 2017 My guess is that either Porter or Wilkinson (the Timbers GM) wanted to blow up the team this offseason and replace older players with younger players. It may also had something to do with Adi, as his absence is what seemed to turn the Timbers season around, as it allowed Mattocks to stretch the field to create space, which allowed Valeri to work his magic. In either case, presumably Wilkinson wanted one thing and Porter another. Wilkinson obviously won.
I kind of had the feeling that winning MLS Cup in 2015 saved Porter's job then. Some relationships aren't made to last. As to the USMNT, have we forgotten this game already?: https://web.archive.org/web/2012040...s&page=tournament&view=match&match_id=1234093 Seriously?
I will never forget. I might still be more pissed about that than what happened with the senior team.
Local source, no additional info as far as I can tell, but even so ... holy s***-snacks did I not see this coming.
Yeah, pretty much don't want to open this can of worms. In the end that generation of players was not really good. That's all. Porter still could have done better though.
The best part is that that game had both Bill Hamid AND Sean Johnson and we still surrendered three goals to Guata-********ing-mala
As a Timbers fan, I'm gutted. A few people on Twitter are hearing that Porter is lining up for the FC Cincinnati MLS job, which would bring him back to Ohio (where he previously coached at Akron).
K FWIW I've got two sources saying this wild-assed guess of mine is dead wrong. Porter's just needs a break.https://t.co/VFvZVqhHIh— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) November 17, 2017 I'm leaning toward him being burned out.
Maybe. Two problems... FC Cincinnati are at least a year or two from MLS (assuuming announced expansion timelines hold) and Alan Koch (their current coach) is something of an up and comer. Current MLS teams may be looking at him, and in the least, he could be a viable first MLS coach in Cincinnati. He has the background to be an MLS coach.
